Adaptation 21XX's Racism by Huntermun

In the glorious Future of 2146, racism is far less of a thing. Mass transit has cut down the travel time between so many locations on the globe, and even teleporting is possible given the right necessity. All and all, the world is far more connected than it once was and that has been of overall benefit. With everyone picking themselves up after the great wars of the 20XX century, humanity has come together in spite of all its faults, not unlike Star Trek…

But did I say racism was less of a thing? I meant among humans. See, racial differences mean very little between being white, ebony, brown, tan, or some other melanoma difference in your skin… but when it comes to humans and mirroids, that situation is not at all the same. For humans, mirroids are a group they begrudgingly accept in some parts of the world… and, in others, they are hunted down without question.

There’s so many reasons for this, but here’s a couple to get you started…

Xi and Vulgal were, for example, hermaphrodites. Xi was human in design, and Vulgal was in the shape of a Huge (that’s a game term) quadrupedal wolf. So, simply being unusual in a sexual sense put them apart from humanity in that way. They were both and yet neither in the eyes of those around them… a matter of their creators design which should have been private was made far too public.

I’ve gone over them being considered robots, these six mirroids whom were found not far from Earthsaver, but think about that for a moment. The religious of the world saw these people as manufactured… worse than being created by man, they were created by a woman… and how could such an artificial being have a soul just as they saw humans as having souls? They couldn’t, and therefore they were either cheap imitations of life, or abominations deserving of no longer existing.

I also spoke of them being a part of the sex trade, and this was not almost at all by desire, even if it was by design. Many “reformed” mirroids today have bodies not only suited to sexual pleasure, but heavily designed that way… inspired by some of the most unique and perhaps perverted ideas that the world had ever seen. The most obvious were indicated above… uncommon sexual configurations drew attention.

However, that doesn’t even include that the anthropomorphized nature of many mirroid designs brought the attention of the mostly accepted Furry community of the 22nd Century. Century-old fictional constructs such as Sergals and Chakats became reality, not to mention numerous humanoids from various popular human fictions. Interested in laying with a minotaur, naga, vampire, hellhound, or other creature? Mirroids could be designed in such a way.

Because if sentience was now something that could be built to one’s personal specifications, why did it need to be human at all? The original six mirroids were each of varying designs. Some were even quadruped, or tauric (later). It wasn’t still beastiality if the four-legged bestie you wanted to have a romp with wasn’t actually a beast, right?

I think we know some of the answer to this. Mirroid’s sexual configurations and unusual designs set them as something sinful and wrong in a world ruled by humanity for the last few millennia. Out of nowhere, this strange race had—to most—simply appeared one day and brought bizarre circumstances to a mostly healed, recovering Earth. Mirroids became a focal point in those wishing the world to stay as it had been… equality had nearly been met worldwide, most would agree, and those that wanted to oppress had gone to the fringes…
But no more… not when all of humanity could band together and point at the mirroids and say “That! That is unnatural!” and even “That’s not a part of God’s plan!”.

That humanity itself had been the ones to mass produce mirroids or that the humans of the world had themselves as having been the ones to mold this new race into something perverted… that responsibility had simply escaped them. And it would be their undoing, three times over…

Mirroid brains were highly specialized containers of a specially concocted chemical gel. The result was something that kept thought and memory almost identically to how a human brain would. Their manufactured nature aside, mirroids were nearly identical to humans in brain function… from input to response time. With mammals as the original basis of Dr. Valentino’s designs, mirroids thought in a very human way.

This was a benefit to the race as even though memories themselves could be copied and replicated… and even though bodies could be built for certain functions… mirroid free-will could not be infringed upon… at least, not in a mechanical sense. They could not be built mindless or made subservient in any ways that you could not do the same to humans.

So when Xi and Vulgal looked across their own race and what humanity had made of them in a decade, it wasn’t hard to get followers for the First Mirroid Uprising. With nearly 15 million mirroids already created in those ten years, any substantial uprising would have plenty of troops. For them, it meant being allowed to exist and fighting for their freedom was the obvious choice for most all of them. After all, they were based upon the only six designs who themselves were created by one single scientist… it should have surprised no one that with so little time for their experiences to diverge, the majority of that liked-minded 15 million mirroid population all banded together to fight their oppressors.

During this time period, many countries around the world built themselves mirroid armies. Rather than having their own people be risked, they built themselves slave armies… and with the backing of their own governments, these mirroids became the dominate force in their armies. Some think that being forced to fight each other brought about peace quicker… because mirroids, armed or not, had no desire to fight their own for long.

Indeed, years later, when the Second Mirroid Uprising occurred, it was nations like these which stepped up to the world’s stage to declare mirroid freedoms globally. We’re getting a bit into history rather than racism, but the truth is that if you fill your armies with manufactured people who bring peace to manufactured people it is indeed a manufactured peace. With a influx of mirroid immigrants to these nations, peaceful coups of the population just made sense. Mirroids taking over human nations? Yes, that lead to more wars…

And for the above reasons and more, mirroids are still looked down upon in human society. Like much science fiction writing, the humans are doing these things to themselves. Most humans have come to terms some 40 years after their original discovery, and mirroids are treated well in many places. Earthsaver is a special city, a part of both the United States and a protectorate of the One World Government… but even here, things can be rather tense.

See you in the Future,
