Reviewing Acceptable Upload Policies and making plans by psion

Don't really come here often as Weasyl is more for artists then writers (though as I write this I realize a solution to my long-standing complaint with Weasyl is staring at me right in the face...) but with FA in read-only mode to implement new security measures I've been reading up on the Copyright/Acceptable Upload policies for here and SoFurry. Figure once FA comes back online I'll announce that I will be crossposting my gallery of commissioned/gifted art to my SoFurry account. Been reviewing Weasyl's own policies and it ended up leaving me with more questions then answers so I'm going to pass on transferring anything over to here. I'll maintain this account to keep track of the fatfur artists that run this way and bug them to make more frequent use of the collections function so I can "repost" my commissions that way but otherwise... yeah no.

And, because I know someone will ask, yes proper credit to the original artist is part of my crossposting plans. Honestly the fact that I even have to say that speaks volumes about people.

Handy tip on the collections feature, it is optional! If you have permission from the original creator and you don't want to use the collections feature, you are welcome to upload it to your own gallery.
If it's made by you, or for you, you may certainly upload it.
Hope that help ya out a bit. If you have any questions about anything on site, feel free to ask any us(the staff) and we will be help you out as best we can :)

So you do use the "by you, for you" clause? That actually is/was the core of my problem. As it is written, it appeared you wanted to follow standard copyright law to the letter. Which okay, some people really need to have things spelled out for them but the way it is written it sounds like only the original artist retains rights. Which, well what do you do if the original artist has left the fandom and deliberately did not leave any contact information for people to follow up with them? Or for that matter, if the original artist has unfortunately died?

Well if someone died, I'm sorry for your loss. Best you can do is give as much credit as you can. Don't always require a link as long as the written information is given clearly enough for no link.
Example: "I got this from SoAndSo as a commission last year" then give them credit like "Written work from SoAndSo" And if you feel it's necessary, you can include that the original author passed away. That's up to you though.
I'm trying my best to simply this for you, apologies if I'm making to much sense.
If you like you can send an e-mail to support@weasyl.com with any questions you have and we'll answer them for you as best we in timely manner :)
