Snow Day! by arikla

Adults get these too, sometimes :) Since the clinic is closed and I am not on-call, figured time for an update. I am generally terrible at updating the journal portion of these sites anyway... *sigh*

So finally finished the "Arctic Ghosts" with a minor glitch. I had scanned it in and then went to apply the fixitif to prevent smearing and... it dripped! I had never had the problem before and didn't even think twice about spraying it flat. Well, that will change now. the drip turned into a lovely dark spot right in the middle. Working it over didn't seem to stop it, so it got covered with the ptarmigan :) Problem solved!

Now, onto the other piece that has been rattling around in my brain... a harper's hands on black paper. So far, I have the image drawn and the harp in color (though not done). Next step is the hands. Black paper is a different challege since you have the color of the paper already and that can affect the color of the pencils used. I have a "map" I made earlier of all the pencils on black paper.

Speaking of pencils, I usually use Prismacolor and have been happy...then they decided production should move to Mexico. Ok, fine, but keep the quality! Not happening... the new pencils are breaking IN THE WOOD resulting in huge wastes. Don't like it. Bought a few Faber-Castelle polychromos on a wonderful sale ($1 each!) and will give them a try. I have been told hey are softer than Prismas, and I may like that. Not testing them on the harp, though. Will have something else later for them.

Upcoming conventions: Well, the next one will be FCN in Michigan in April. Always a fun convention and looking forward to it. I'll put the call out for badge commissions later. I have registration set for Rainfurrest in September as well. In between, in August, I am hoping to try a local show. It is a juried show, though, so we will see. I should know by mid-April if I will be there. It would be a change to do something non-furry and local.

I still have several pieces for sale on Etsy too! ( https://www.etsy.com/shop/Arikla ) Right now, all originals. I am considering putting the pendants up that I made out of the shrinky plastic. they didn't really catch a lot of interest at FC and I will probably stick to pins. May look into the glass pendants I have seen others do, but not sure if my things can shrink that small and retain detail. I'll probably try again at FCN and see what two cons tell me about them.

Considering an ad on FA, but not sure yet. I've heard fairly good things about them and the reach they have. I know marketing is my absolute worst. I am terrible at trying to market myself. I tend toward the "Hey! Lookie! I do Art! Oh, but, yeah, they do art too, and it really better. You should go see their stuff!" I need an art-ego :)
