I really wonder why weasyl isn't more popular by shorty-antics-27

I see that Furry Network is quickly gaining more people... but why not here?

I feel like it can't just be that people are avoiding here because of the lack of people.

Are there things other than the amount of people that has you not liking this site as much?

Furry Network bugs me that it shows my history and doesn't have my art front and center, and that I can't post anything like a journal, so that's why I wouldn't use that place as much.

The rating system here has bugged me, but following along with the feedback forum about it is helping me understand it more.

But yeah, just really curious, especially when FA keeps going down.

I think my main complaint would be that the times shown really confuses me. I prefer when it says something was posted "1 hour ago" instead of the actual time. My brain has a really hard time figuring out when things happen with that.

I find that a lot of people simply forget that Weasyl exists. A lot of furries try to maintain 3-4 galleries, and it's just cumbersome. So, people tend to leave here, or stop uploading here, because it's not with in their first 2 choices. To me, it's just a matter of laziness on the part of the uploader(s). Weasyl is my main gallery for more reasons than any other website.

My only complaint is that Weasyl seems a bit under-powered. Like, the website responds slower than most, but it's a good site.

That too. I guess I'm a little biased since most of the other "furry" oriented art sites don't like human art. So I can't connect to Inkbunny or Sofurry at all and rarely update there, while I do mostly on FA and DA, but these attacks on FA are so bothersome.

I still am a little slow with posting art to Weasyl, and that's mainly with the different coding to each site. I have to edit each description so they work on here.

I do agree with the underpowered.

I had always assumed it was because people either refused to leave FA or just didn't want upkeep on another gallery.

More people will come over in light of what has happened to FA recently, that's a certainty, especially with all the recent journals I'm seeing now.

Some are honest about it (i.e. "FA is down and I need some way to connect with people"), but the ones that act like normal Weasyl users won't be able to notice why they're suddenly active after months of being gone are quite cute to read.

As for Furry Network: That just looks like a bulked up tumbler to me and, from what I can see, only has art posted by bigger names in the community. The whole "Popufur" thing was bad enough on FA; I can only imagine how bad it will be when struggling artists log in to FN just to see their work buried beneath page after page of someone else's Patreon teaser images.

A little harsh, I know, but it's absurd that we, as a community, have all these sites to access but can't seem to unify on a single one of them except for the one that barely works half the time. FA, as I'm sure you know, is popular because it has the numbers and that's it...until it goes down and suddenly everyone hates it.

Long Answer to Your Question Made Short:

People are set in their ways and sadly predictable. A better option could be right under their noses and they would choose the warped one over it every time.

I really couldn't tell you, but it's a shame because FA has only ever caused the fandom more problems than it's solved, and Weasyl would have been the right alternative at the right time for people to migrate to when FA had some of its worst drama + downtimes.

I don't really want to try FN for a lot of little reasons, but I'll take whatever takes FA down.

Because the staff of Weasyl is doing nothing to promote Weasyl other than "we're not FA". They have made very few changes in the last year or so, and their own mods can't agree on their rating system, which is in desperate need of an overhaul. Plus Weasyl is set up more for artists, less for consumers of art, which is what Weasyl needs to attract to support its artists. Without consumers, artists won't use Weasyl.

FN caters to non-artists in the same way FA caters to non-artists. Weasyl doesn't, weasyl is very unkind to the non-artist and the things that would accommodate them are currently in limbo. The collections was an attempt at that but it wasn't well implemented and the collaborations side of it still isn't finished and who knows when it will be. Weasyl is a great art site and a mediocre social network and that's fine by me.

the needs of an Art Site and the needs of a Social Network are two very different things, and as such they attract different people. Honestly I'd just would like an art site that allowed for OpenID commenting so that people wouldn't feel forced to make accounts and could still participate on the site.

i was gonna enter furry network, but i didnt , i hae another furry network but i dont like it, i use this site, but i cant get to people notife me at all, or at least sell something neither on DA so i stay in FA, i dont understand why people get so mad when FA get offline i mean is a popular site and someone would do that , but still i and other people stay cause they know what happens , othe people just freak out.

I guess a lot of the other people commented on things that are likely cause. I dunno, but I still use it as my main

I keep seeing people saying "it's inactive" as a reason to... not be... active.

Sadly, it boils down to FA being the equivalent to Facebook and Weasyl being Google Plus (minus the stupid YouTube incident). Despite all the stuff that happens to Facebook or FA, people will always go to it, no matter how wrong it is.

It also boils down to people being rather unaware of just plain ignorant about the issues. Back when SOPA and PIPA were in the talks, I brought it up in my Introduction to Business class, since it would have an impact on a lot of practices. Out of a class of 30, only 2 people honestly paid any attention. The woman in front was on Facebook, another somewhere on Twitter, all services that would have been jeopardized and rendered closed if those had passed. I bet if SOPA or PIPA had passed, they'd be wondering what happened, only angry afterwards instead of doing something about it BEFORE hand.

Even with this event, I doubt a good majority of people will leave FA for the same reason: many won't even know about it, about the security risks involved that happened, and continue to live in a bliss of no awareness.

Lots of great commentary here, but I'd also like to add something that someone else actually pointed out to me! A) It's harder to get business here, as it would "seem" the artist to commissioner ratio is higher here, while on furaffinity it's reversed. B) it was also pointed out (and a rather good point I might add) that 90% of the journals I see here and have EVER seen here; mostly complain ABOUT furaffinity and whatever drama has recently happened there. So a lot of people associate Weasyl with butthurt artists from furaffinity.

Wish they would add AJAX style remove buttons on the grid. Furry network has this on the stream view and it makes going through hundreds of pictures so much quicker than having to click check box after checkbox and go find a remove button.

I don't really have complain aboutthis site, I find it awesome to be honest, but my main problem on being active here is that my main page is on DA, and another art site is useful for me only for pubblishing NSFW stuff and following NSFW artists :/ I just wish this site can become more popular!
