Welcoming Home New Ratties! by Menageriecat

Welcome home, Helmi, Ruth, and Bailey!!!!!! Whee!!!! That made my night last night!

All three of these little ratties are rather skittish, Helmi being the most.

Helmi (6mo old) was loose in petco for (what I understand) a couple months, and then she was loose again for some time in the home that took her in after she was caught. She loves other rats, but is super shy with people. She is a troubled little one right now, which is the reason I took her in; I want to help her become comfortable with people, and to become a happy, sweet little girl free from her skittish shell. It'll take some time, likely months, but I've done this kind of re-socializing before and am ready and prepared for it <3 She is a lovely girl, I can see as much beneath her skittish shell.

Ruth (about 4wks old) is the most social and is very energetic! She races around their temporary cage and climbs up and down the sides, and I suspect it was her pulling their blanket (covering most of the cage to make a darker environment for Helmi and Bailey, as this is a good way of easing shy rats into their new environment..makes them feel comfortable and safe) thru the near top of the cage! She's a champagne (super super super light fawn) hooded, top earred rat. She's going to be a very fun little lady, I can tell <3

Bailey (about 4wks) is very skittish like Helmi, only she wasn't running loose in the store for months. She's just very shy is all! She won't let me get close to her to see exactly what color she is, but she appears to be a black hooded or capped (irregular as she has a single mark between her shoulders and possibly at the base of her tail), top earred. I haven't had a chance to check and see if she's actually female, as the person I bought her from did mention she was unsure with some of the other babies she has.

Ruth and Bailey came from a very big litter of babies from 4 different mothers. In total, there was 42 babies! The mothers were taken from a feeder bin, and when the lady brought them home, she didn't realize all four were pregnant until the next morning when the cage was full of new babies!

Helmi and Bailey will be some work, but I know they'll come around. Once their quarantine time has passed and they're introduced to Shirley and Inkie, they'll be able to see how well they interact with me and start to make positive connections <3 Here's to my happy mischief! Shirley, Inkie, Helmi, Bailey, and Ruth! I love them all so very much!
