The Jungle Book (2016) by JohnStripedfur

I saw the latest Disney live action movie in their future longer lines of live action adaptations of their past animated movies. Which is The Jungle Book.

At first. I wasn't totally on board with this flick. Mainly because I don't see a reason for them to make their past animated classics and remake them into live action. Other than money and a little bit of introducing them to the new generation. I wasn't liking their live action remakes so far.

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland was a huge storytelling failure. It was full of Tim Burtonisms and he decided to create a simple story of a little girl who accidently got into a weird world and we follow her in her journey and make it as a chosen hero storyline. Which was never the point of the story. The actors in it gave great performances, but I just didn't like the story. Not looking forward to the upcoming sequel Alice Through the Looking Glass.

Maleficent wasn't Maleficent. AT ALL. They took a good idea to tell an origin story to one of the greatest Disney villains of all time and decided to make it a retelling of Sleeping Beauty from a different point of view. And make her an hero in the end. It was beautiful to look at, but they totally missed an opportunity and make the movie look like they're putting down the original animated movie.

Cinderella was an ok movie. A definite date movie. A nice little update and like some of the changes, but in the end. It's not really memorable. Pretty much all Cinderella movies are basically the same and this newest one will pretty much end up as just another one of those movies Disney did. If the animated movie never got made. This one would probably be the definitive.

Now this movie. The Jungle Book. I wasn't sure how it would look like considering they made all animals CGI and put it in total green screen. Not sure how it will be pulled off. But then, I saw the teaser and then the main trailer and I was totally blown away. I was very much convinced that this movie will be pulled off. And I was right. The movie was fantastic to look at. At some points of the movie, you would forget that the whole thing was on green screen. And the animals nearly look realistic, even though you know they are CGI. And the voice cast is probably one of the best voice cast ever put for that movie. I'm glad I went to see it. I enjoyed it for what it has. It's pretty much the same movie as the original animated one, but they add a few changes. If I have to nitpick, there's this one part in the movie where Mowgli meets King Louie for the first time and something happened in there that made me go, "Huh?" Like it just came out of nowhere. But, the rest was pretty good and I like it. My faith in live action remakes has kind of restored in a way. If they can pull this off. Then maybe they could make a good live action remake.

Overall, a very enjoyable movie. If you're a fan of the original animated classic, you will like this movie. :)
