Just got back. Originally I was going to be back in Chicago at midnight, but luckily I could get an earlier flight! Saved me 7 hours of waiting at the airport. Then again, the moment I landed back here I missed Dallas :(
So! Lets do the Day by day then?
Thursday: Landed in Dallas. Me and Mek literally got no sleep the night before. At least we slept for the 2 hour flight. That was a fun experience trying to find the shuttle to the right area. We searched for about 30 minutes before we gave up and just took a taxi to the hotel. We met up with Xiaomao and the gang. And I got to try out a set of water based markers (that are very similar to copics. Seriously cool).
Friday: Con started! Me and Mek had to get our badges and such. Mekattak lost the one he made at home at the airport sadly. I was able to register for the artist alley raffle. Of 52 spots available, 7 people didn't get in. And there were a hand full that got there too late to enter the raffle. I was able to get a table myself! Issue was, I got literally no sales on Friday. I gave out a TON of cards, but not even a single sticker sold! I asked around, and it seemed super strange that I didn't sell anything at my prices. No real loss, as I doodled the whole time. I had Mek take a photo of my table at the end of the day https://twitter.com/Zaezardraws/status/708517767876444160 I think people were still scouting out for commissions later in the con. At least I got to talk to Boneitis for a while. I freaking love his ink work. After the Alley closed, I left with Mao and company to get food.
Saturday: I got my table again. Nothing happens... Nothing happens... Nothing happens... Two prints get sold, I get a commission for two pages, and another commission. All within 30 minutes! So that mostly made up the cost of the con attendance and the cost of the artist alley tables. Yaaaaay! All of them seriously knew exactly what they wanted when they showed up. One dude probably knew of my work already, as his character DID NOT HAVE ANY SKIN ON HIS FACE. I LOVE THAT DRAWING SO MUCH. I got them all done and handed to the people before the end of the day. Then went off to try new food and chat with people in general.
Sunday: Last day of the con. Everyone that wanted to buy something at the con were roaming the artist alley. I was guaranteed a table because so many alarms didn't go off (Yay for daylight savings time and phone glitches). Most of the artists missed the raffle and showed up later. I got to design someone's character with them too! And probably the funniest thing that happened all con happened on Sunday. At the beginning of the day I learned a new style that I was experimenting with (I will be posting more that that later~). One of the tests was a raccoon skull and loosely a ribcage and such with a loose background and text on top saying "They call me frank." Why frank? Because it looked like a Frank. While I was coming back to my table, someone was looking through my pile of con doodles. Turns out, their name is Frank, everyone calls him Frank, and he has a raccoon sona. You can guess I sold him that damn piece at a discount. There was no way I was letting him go without it XD. Sadly, I didn't get any photos of it. The pile of doodles really wasn't my highest priority. So somewhere out there is a Frank sketchy ink doodle. Somewhere... (If you find me, let me know!)
Monday: I came home. Got a flight early thanks to showing up to the airport super early. Landed in Chicago. Missed being in Texas instantly. Sat down at home. Made this journal! All in all, Texas Furry Fiesta 2016 was a ton of fun. I absolutely love being behind the AA tables and chatting with people. Sorry for the entire journal of "I sold this thing and made this art!" But that's what I like to do at conventions! I hope I am settled in enough this time next year to afford to go again. But now that I know I CAN do this legitimately, then really any convention is on the table as a possibility. Got anything coming up in your area that you want to share? I'll consider going if it doesn't interfere too much :3
