I do not care about being copied by armaina

Inspired by something of mine? Go for it
Selling something based on what I’ve sold? Go for it
Style or technique mimicked? Go for it
Blatant lifting of my themes/aesthetic? Go for it
Designing a character that looks like mine? Go for it
Wanna make a story inspired by mine? Go for it
Straight up tracing? Go for it, but you should really credit for you own sake

Here’s the thing, the only things I really have concern about are:

1) being impersonated
2) commissions (that aren’t for you) being lifted or misused
3) my work being shared or used without credit
4) direct copying without credit (perler beads, tattoos, etc..)
5) work being used for commercial works (print, pet sites, games etc..) without being appropriately paid for.

Even then I don’t really get angry so much as just disappointed (except in the case of the commercial thing). Actually I think the only time I’d want something removed even if credit is provided is if my work is used to promote a concept/group/ideal that I do not personally endorse.

Because here’s the thing - it doesn’t matter how much someone mimics me, they will never be me. Direct rips even of personal things will never bother me because they will be directly removed from the ‘soul’ that they’re tied to. It’ll never be the same, no mimicry can take that away from me. However, I do think you’re doing yourself a disservice if you simply translate everything 1:1 and never inject yourself into it. But I don’t mind being lifted from until someone learns a way to properly inject themselves into their work, it’s cool, we’ve all been there.

We are always lifting from something, even subconsciously. Even the people that claim they never mimic anything, they’re doing it too and they don’t even realize it. We are always cycling off and translating from each other, that’s just how this stuff works. It’s not that nothing is original, that’s frankly an awful way to look at it, it’s that everyone has different filters and some distort stuff more than others. The importance is not the thing itself, but rather the lens that everyone sees something through and our ability to witnessing their view through their lens.

I totally agree, and to be honest, this is pretty much exactly how I feel about my art. C:
