      my heart

I just wanna play some Katamari but it refuses to read any disk that isn't Shadow of the Colossus or a handful of PS1 games

tried some cleaning/fixing tutorials, nothing helps

the joys of PS1/2/3, all of them suffer from crappy drives...

as far as I know my PS1 is still kickin' like it's 1998! I'll have to dig it out of storage sometime and see, but it never gave me any problems for the 10+ years I used it.

There's a gigantic amount of PS1/2/3 with bad drives. PSones tend to have no issues and later PS1 don't tend to suffer either, but earlier ones are pretty bad. I have I think 8x PS2, and none of them have working drives...PS3s aren't terrible (probably no worse that x360) and in case of both when the drive goes there's a bit of a headache as there drive has ID in it that has to match the main unit...

Get a PS2 Slim, those tend to be more reliable and maintenance friendly.

If you're able to, you could try setting up an emulator?

i know the feel, both of my PS2's are at this stage. the normal one refuses to read anything for longer than about 5 minutes and the slim just won't start up anymore and i'm not confident enough in my hardware abilities to rip them apart and try to fix them :c

at least, a quick skim of ebay showed that they aren't terribly expensive, if you want to get a new one

I got a replacement on Sunday and it's working great! They've dropped in price quite a bit since I bought the other one in like 2011.
