Gertrude was once the proud wife of a rooster who was a decorated war veteran servicing the Kalosian army; being married for 25 years. The two would bear a son who would eventually grow up and move to the Kanto region to pursue legal studies. The departure would take place on bad terms, however, as he would constantly be at odds with his father while questioning why his mother would continue to stay with him. One night, their old household would be subjected to a burglary as her husband attempted to fend off the intruder; resulting in his death and the intruder being incapacitated to be apprehended. With her son now long gone and her husband deceased, it seemed as though the road leading to happiness had been cut off for her forever.

After one month following the incident, Gertrude would move into a peculiar neighborhood with the assistance of Karma as he lived across the street from her new house. She would immediately be enamored with his shy, kindhearted disposition as she would see her estranged son in him. Ever since moving in, she would also befriend Ceres, as her skills as a cook can make even the Goddess of Agriculture blush!

She now owns a roadside diner within Kalos known as "The Henhouse Diner" which has been famous for serving the best breakfasts, lunches, and dinners tailored to workers and tourists alike. With an infectious, countryside drawl, many refer to her as "Mama Gertrude" since her sugary personality is able to make anyone's day become as bright as her golden feathers. Just once embrace of hers will leave those subjected to them comfortably buried and dazed within her hearty curves and cloud-like softness; smothering them with joyful affection like any yearning mother would~
