The Apex Corporation routinely recruits the galaxy's best to fight in their private army. To that end, they sought the last living Templar, Rook.

The Templar are a species that grows stronger as they age, and it is unknown if they can die of old age, as they never last long enough to get there. Many years ago, a strange plague began to kill off the Templar, so those that remained went into self-induced stasis in the hopes of outliving the plague, and Rook was among them. When Apex finally found and awakened Rook, there was no trace left of his species, or the disease that rendered them extinct.

He is the strongest, heaviest, largest, oldest known Apex employee. Due to hundreds of years in stasis, he is out of touch with current technology, often requiring the assistance of another Apex operative to complete complex technical tasks, such as hacking. He is no fool, though, and has trained to use most modern technology. The biggest barrier between him and a gun is simply that his fingers are too large to pull the trigger.

Other than his extreme strength and resilience, Rook possesses what he calls 'holy power', a blue energy that fills the insides of all Templar. Whether it is truly fueled by their religion is unknown, but what is known is that he and his people can harness this energy into improvised 'spells' that are often paladin-like in nature. These abilities are used for healing the wounded, reviving the dead, or projecting an extremely lethal "Holy Bolt" from his palm to tear a target in half, among other things.

Because of his size, he is also the slowest Apex operative, and the largest target. He is stiff both in combat style and personality, possessing a strict moral code that he will never stray from, even if ordered to. Apex avoids asking Rook to do things he would find morally questionable, as he is known to deviate from mission objectives in order to fulfill these obligations, and he is extremely powerful, so they would rather stay on his good side.

Rook and Kuu sit at opposite ends of the moral spectrum, neither operative particularly liking the other or their methods, which is cause for contention in or out of missions.

His size requires that equipment be tailored specifically for him, and he often cannot use equipment that has not been designed for him. It is unknown exactly what the limits of his strength or damage resistance are, in combat it has been observed that his skin is dense, and records of him being shot in the head often also report that the projectile was simply deflected by his skull.

His tattered ears are the only known marker as to his true age. If Templar records are to be believed, he was far smaller and far less muscular when he was younger, likely also possessing undamaged ears.
