Name:
Rhafala
Age:
355 Years
Gender:
Female
Species:
Xigon

Looks Far is a small sized Xigon, standing at approximately eight foot at the shoulder, while being above average in length, and possessed of a slim, athletic build. Her entire body, bar the throat, is covered in feather-scales, with the feather-scales growing into a bird-like tail, with a dragon tail at the center. In colouration, she is a bronze-yellow for most of her underside, though the top sides of her wings and face are a cream colour, with markings in an almost gold-yellow. There is a crest of half-circle shaped feathers on the back of her neck and head, with a longer, fluffier feather hanging down along one side of the neck. The crest is coloured a vibrant red, with markings in orange and purple. On the side of her head, Far has a grey horn, that curves out from the face, before arching back towards the neck. The horns, from above, resemble crescents, and serve to defend the vulnerable neck when the head is arched back. The upper jaw is beaked, with the tip a sharp hook, while the lower jaw is more rounded, and lined with sharp fangs.

Far's legs are scaled, like those of an immense bird, and coloured a drab grey, though the thick plates on the front of the legs show scuffing and some scars here and there. The talons themselves are long and hooked, and the xigon tends to make clicking noises as she walks on hard surfaces. Which is why, usually, Far will fly to wherever she needs to go, using broad, powerful wings, the undersides of which are webbed, and coloured like a dusky sky. Towards the wingarm, the webbing is a deep purple, lightening to paler colour on the outer edge. One other thing to note are her eyes - The one on the right is blazing blue, like the desert sky, the other is gone, ripped from her head, an ugly scar all that's left to remember it by. Never one to let something as trivial as a missing eye get in the way of burning things, Far has replaced it with an orb of molten glass, which, while not very good for seeing, is great for intimidating people. The glass-eye doesn't hurt Far, who, like all Xigon, has an immense resistance to heat and fire.

As she moves, one gets a sense of the character within - despite her looks, Far is not a creature of sunshine and warmth, at least, not in the cheery sense. No, Far is a hunter, and her warmth is that of a furious sun, angered by the very notion that there are those who will defy the natural order of things. Far doesn't walk, she stalks, her every move bringing to mind a predator on the trail.

Far wears two pouches, each slung over a shoulder. The pouches are made of the stomach of one of the sandwyrms of her homeland, with an exterior made of closely woven Xigon feather-scales. One pouch carries sand, and the other carries a globule of molten glass. The molten glass is for when Far does not have time to prepare some for an attack, and the sand is back-up, or crafting.

Personality The xigon were created to combat undead and, while some of that race take this duty less seriously than others, there are, of course, those that make it their life. Far is one of the latter. Her entire being is centered around the desire, the need, to rid the world or undeath, and she will go to any means necessary to see this done. The xigon comes across as ruthless, for she has little mercy for those afflicted by the undead, be they thrall, infected, or sympathiser. Far has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to the undead, and those that willingly deal with them, either to cure or aid, will burn with them. This isn't the norm for Xigon, and Far is seen as an extreme case, even for the Slayer Caste. Though it should be noted that she doesn't much care what her peers think.

The world to Farla is black and white, with no room for greys. Undead, even if they seem to want to reform and be 'good' people, can never be so. They will always fall victim to their base desires, and hurt anyone caught in the backlash. It's completely lost on Far that the same could be said of her - in the xigon's opinion, whatever she does is justified, as long as one more undead is returned to ash. Her disgust for undead is a result comprised of centuries of battling them, and a solid belief that, by refusing to give their souls to the Void, undead are damaging the course of nature. Added to that is the way undead trick their way into communities, only to destroy them, let it boil away for a few years, and viola. You have one angry Slayer.

The Slayer is extremely stubborn, and rarely gives up on anything, be it an idea or hunt, for anything less than imminent death. She pushes herself hard, often spending days, if not weeks, aloft in search of her next target, and demands similar service form those who infrequently travel and work with her. For all this, though, Far never asks someone looking to her to do something, or go somewhere, she herself wouldn't.

It could be expected that Rhafala makes for a poor leader - she holds everyone to her standard, and if you fall behind, you stay behind. Those weaker than her should, in her view, stay home and let proper fighters do the hard work. The Xigon is well aware that it takes all types to make the world go round - but she has no sympathy for weaklings playing at soldiers rather than sticking to their farms.

Considering that Far has lived her entire life within a combat situation of one kind or another, it stands to reason that she is very cynical, viewing any offer of aid, or a warm welcome with a mental weighing of the situation. Every situation is loaded, and lives can hang on her decision. Landwalkers, more than anything, cannot be trusted to hold to their word - they're not Xigon, and they think nothing alike. It will take a greater mind than Far to even divine what a Landwalker is thinking, let alone why.

Far does have some redeeming points, however - for once, she is extremely loyal, even to the race that regard her with fear. If you somehow earn her good favour, you can count on an angry, flaming mass of tooth and claw to be at your side, all the way to Hell and back. She also possesses a strong stomach, in the metaphorical sense. When one deals with undead, once becomes inured to their particular brand of ickniness. Very little can phase her - once you've seen a village utterly destroyed and soaked in blood, or a centuries old corpse that refuses to stay dead, there is little else to compare.

While she won't hesitate to burn those that aid or support undead, Far will likewise turn all her will to defending those that refute them. As mentioned before, she believes everyone has their place in the world, and hers is to defend the helpless from undead monsters. In summary, if you are in any way sympathetic to undead, or undead yourself, Far will stop at nothing to destroy you. If you are simply a bystander, then Far will do all she can to protect you.

Abilities Mimicry - Due to her somewhat avian nature, Far, like most Xigon, possesses an ability to mimic noises. Far, personally, uses her ability to copy the voices of others, as well as to make herself easier to understand to anyone who doesn't speak Xigon.

Fire Magic - Proficient in the use of fire, there are multiple ways in which Far can use her magic. Either as the traditional fire-breath of the dragons, or the fireball method preferred by mortal mages.

Glass Magic - Far's main mode of attack. She is a master of the unique magic of the Xigon, and can command molten glass as if it were an extension of her body. She wields the super-heated sand as whips, sometimes cooling it to launch shards at her enemies. As she has travelled far from her Homeland, Rhafala has taken to weaving shards of glass into her feather-scales, as a method of defence. It should be noted that Far can control both molten and solid glass, but only if it has been imparted with a degree of her will beforehand. She cannot reach out to a 'foreign' piece of glass and expect it to obey.

Strengths: Solar Affinity - The magic of the Xigon is inextricably bound to the Sun, and so their fire carries a hint of that celestial body's own power. This means, essentially, that its pretty effective against anything with a weakness for sunlight. To anyone else, it's just normal fire.

Fire Immunity - Far is nigh on immune to fire, magical or otherwise. A high enough concentration, or extended exposure, however, will eventually get to her. Not to mention she isn't immune to the smoke form such blazes.

Determination - This lady is pretty hard to deter from her chosen path. If that path lies through you, then so be it. She will ignore her own body's needs if she senses an end to a chase, and goes so far as to run herself to exhaustion on a pursuit. This also works against her, for obvious reasons. All you need to do is wait for her to drop, and then slit her throat.

Weaknesses: Solar Powered - Far needs sunlight to work her magic. While she can store energy within herself, it can take days to restock from empty. When running herself close to dry, Far becomes more sluggish, and her feather-scales appear duller. Obviously, she cannot attack with her molten glass, or fire breath, with no energy, and has to rely on her teeth and claws.

Anyone got any Sand? - Her preferred method of attack requires sand, which she can then heat into molten glass. No sand, no weapon.

Water - Rain she can just about deal with, but rivers, waterfalls, and other such things are a surefire way to deter Far. If doused, Far's abilities are, effectively, nullified until she can dry herself off. The Xigon don't know why this is, but it was a fail-safe, put in place by one of their creator-gods. Because sometimes, a Xigon like Far happens, and you need a way to rein her in.
Peripheral Vision - Or, more correctly, the lack of it.

Background:
Hatched in the City of the Sun's Eye, in the desert nation of Cheeoka. Far's parents were a Healer and a Blacksmith. She had no siblings.

Spent her childhood learning from the Speakers - Xigon who could commune with the Ancestral Spirits - as all young Xigon do.

From an early age, Far showed an aptitude for Glass Magic, and was encouraged to practice. She chose to do so by crafting little ornaments for her friends and family.

When she was fully fledged, and considered a full adult, Far was sent out with a Slayer Wing, as their apprentice magical back-up.

Almost predictably, things go sour, fast. A massive undead construct rises from the sand, and in one stroke takes out Far's Master, and four of the Slayers.

Only Far, and six Slayers, are left. They fight, to the best of their ability,

During the fight, Far loses her left eye - being slammed, head first, into a shard of bone sticking out of your opponent does that.

They disarm the construct (literally), but it isn't enough, and they are forced to retreat.

Reaching the City, they muster the Guard - the construct had pursued them, somewhat pissed about the loss of its arm.

As the Xigon prepare to defend themselves, the first reports of sightings come in, with a note of disgusted horror - the construct has repaired itself using the bodies of the fallen Xigon.

Far takes her place with the Slayers. Though wounded, she refuses to leave. When pressed by her mother, in her role as a Healer, Far simply replaces her lost eye with a glob of molten glass. This promptly silences any protests.

The entire City battles this gargantuan construct - there are casualties, fatalities, but, eventually, they defeat it, and burn it to ash.

Thus begins Far's apprenticeship with the Slayers, already wounded, and already possessing a burning hatred of undead things.

Years pass, and, on her two-hundredth Hatchday, Far graduates, and is allowed to take the title of Slayer for herself. She chooses to work alone, as a Fore-guard for the Slayers.

Gradually, Far hunts farther and farther afield, going so far as to the very borders of Cheeoka. She always returns, though she finds, more and more, that the gazes of her fellows become increasingly more wary of her than pleased.

During this time, she sees more and more undead, their numbers increasing. With their renewed attacks, more Xigon die, more are taken to be used for those...things. What started as hatred has become an obsession.

Reaching her three-hundredth year, Far declares that she is leaving the birth-land of the Xigon, to stalk and burn out the undead that prowl the lands beyond. It isn't a request, and she leaves the day she states her intent.
