Setting: The fantasy world of Eltaren
The relation between a fhend and a surrogling birthed a bastard child with no true species to call his own. The child, Mathias, never knew his demonic father, who disappeared after his birth. Instead, he grew up among the bird-like people of his mother's race. A surrogling's life is immeasurably long, however, and Mathias remained youthful to the end of his mother's days. Hardly an adult by the time of her passing, Mathias took his companion, a massive riding bird named Utti, and left to travel the world. With nothing left tying him to his mother's home, a wish to finally find his father, and a thirst for knowledge that could not be quenched, the world of Eltaren became an open road to Mathias and Utti.
Though it is common practice for fhend children to learn their way around a sword, Mathias always had a fondness for the arcane over any martial arts. His own sword is rarely removed from its sheath, and even though his magical skills are prodigious, there is far more to learn about sorcery than he can imagine. The collection of books Mathias carries around has more to offer than spells, however; a good story never ceases to entertain him on his travels, and even Utti enjoys hearing him read aloud as they ride along. On top of it all, Mathias loves to sing. He makes an active effort to learn a few new songs and trade a good number of books with each village, town, or city he may pass through.
