Name:
Evening Haze
Age:
Young Adult
Gender:
Female
Species:
Unicorn

Yep, it's a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic OC. Don't worry though, she's a loser.

Appearance: Evening Haze is a dull purple unicorn with a tendency to look slightly uncomfortable in most situations. Her mane is dark green with long, floppy bangs. Her tail is cropped short, and looks like she took scissors to it herself instead of having a professional cut it. Her eyes are yellow, but somehow still manage to seem dull. Her cutie mark is a roll of fog under a star. Evening's movements are slow, but more weary than deliberate. Her magic's aura is light purple.

Backstory: Evening Haze and her twin sister, Ocean Haze, grew up in Manehattan. Though her sister was a unicorn like herself, her mother was an earth pony who worked as manager of a successful soap business, and it was she who raised the two sisters for most of their lives. Evening resents her father, who left her mother when she was still a filly. The way her mother told it, her father was a liar and a cheat, and they were better off without him.

As Evening and Ocean grew older, their father made numerous attempts to again be a part of their lives. Ocean was glad to see him again, but Evening still believed he had left them to run off with a new family, like her mother said. She refused to see him again, while Ocean began visiting him every other week. Evening saw this as a betrayal, and thus began to resent her sister. This wasn't the only cause of strife between them, but it did begin the downward spiral of their relationship.

Evening had a tendency to self-isolate in school. Ocean made lots of friends easily, but Evening didn't want her -sister's- friends. She wanted her own. She would spend hours fantasizing about her friends that were completely awesome in every way and adored her and did everything with her and weren't...really...real. This phase lasted about a year, after which she decided the others at her school couldn't really live up to her high standards of friendship anyway.

Ocean got her cutie mark early. Evening got hers late. Very late. While she got above-average marks on tests, she began to turn in her homework less and less. She graduated mostly due to her mother aggressively accusing the teachers of being too hard on her. Even so, she was held back a grade.

It wasn't until she began college (or whatever ponies call it) that she began to make friends whom she sincerely cared about. This is also when the lying started. They were never malicious lies, but Evening would often stretch the truth to make herself look better. She felt if she was honest, that her friends wouldn't find her interesting. Soon after the lying came the mooching. Evening's mother was successful enough to pay for her education, but gave her only enough money to cover cost of living beyond that.

It started innocently enough. Evening would lack the foresight to save her money for food, and would spend it all on games or books. Then she'd go out with her friends, and they'd offer to pay for her meal. After a while, she became accustomed to this treatment, and even started asking to borrow money when she wanted to buy something she -almost- had enough bits for.

A year later, her friends were fed up with Evening's neediness. They tried to confront her about it, which would work for a while, but then it'd start up again. Soon, before Evening knew what was happening, her friends stopped inviting her to spend time with them. They were tired of paying for her, and there was no sense in inviting her to see a movie she couldn't afford.

This is about when Evening started to panic. Her friends were gone, and now she had a reputation of being more trouble then she was worth. Ocean had already graduated and began starting her career. Evening was taking random classes without much focus. The experience of finally finding friendship, and then losing it, drove her to rash action. She dropped out while simultaneously weaving a web of lies to make it seem like she'd simply been chosen for an internship outside of Manehattan. Her mother either bought it, or didn't care enough to confront the lie. Evening asked her mom for some money to get her set up in the 'apartment' with her 'roomie' (who didn't actually exist) all the way in Ponyville. She was given enough for 5 month's rent.

Evening hopes to find a roommate, make new friends without messing things up this time, and possibly find a job before her mother uncovers her ridiculous lie.

Likes: Reading anything other than what she -should- be reading, the period of time when your friendship with someone is new, magic shadow puppets, relaxing, the kind of music your parents might listen to...

Dislikes: The moment your friends realize you're more trouble than you're worth, taking tests, homework, waking up before noon, the feeling you get when you know you look awkward but you don't know how to fix it, dubstep...

Traced the sketch from a Rarity vector by GeometryMathAlgebra on DA for the pose, roughly. Then I did the whole ‘make every line a shape with the pen tool and then flood fill’ because I never learn.
