Born into a fortunate family of starshooter aristocracy, LaPlace had a well provided upbringing. With both parents being in the military, LaPlace was exposed to the hunt at a young age, and adapted to it with both speed and talent. By his adolescent years, LaPlace was already comparable with some of the top hunters in the local military, and had made quite a respectable reputation for himself.

For years, he lived a life of wealth, power, and even his own share of fame, but everything changed upon a hunt in the forest. As long as he could remember, he'd excelled at hunting, and he'd never thought twice about his actions, for ultimately they led to the prosper of his people, and the prosper of his family, but in all his hunts, he had only ever hunted subjects in their prime. The stardashers were swift and watchful, but with their lifegems would also come the rewards of their masterful jewelry - rarities that would make for an excellent gift or sale back home. But on this trip, his squad comrades had happened upon a dasher in the blossoms of its youth. Dispatching its feral mother posed no trouble to their group, but it was the sight of the young that had pulled LaPlace's emotions taught and frayed his sense of morals. True it was, that the youngling's life gem was a rare shade and of the most exquisite make, but to take it...

His hesitation had no affect on the brutality before him, and he returned home with his squadron with low spirits and haunting thoughts that were his alone. No others seemed to share his mind on the matter, and thus he was alone in his despondency. From that point on, he ventured on fewer and fewer hunts, and the hunts he did venture along were accompanied by new and ever larger waves of sympathy for his victims.

This was his way of life, but he was quickly becoming uncomfortable with it. The fame, the fortune, even his prowess and skills did little to lift his spirits in the wake of his developing understanding of the atrocities he was committing. But to speak such things would be heretical, of course. A choice had to be made.
