Joe is a dragonkin living in New Duke who goes on his day working. However, he is a Machimera, a subtype of Machina. The reason how is that in a mission in the Pripyat amusement park, a powerful, angelic monster binded Joe and almost killed him with sword-like magic. In a critical state, he had no choice but to be revived into a Machimera. Although he looks the same as he was, he is technically considered a Machina due to the assault. Later on, he was eligible to become a Black Knight through rigorous tests. However, he sometimes feel that he shouldn't have become a Machimera because he "saw the gates of Heaven" as he was getting stabbed and slashed. Regardless, him and a blue tiger friend live together to go through their daily lives and various missions.

※ Machina are androids/cyborgs who have flesh-like parts installed in them that functions like machines, however they have realistic parts and armor compared to androids. Machimeras however are like Machina but able to transform their parts into animal parts through powerful synthetic liquids. Black Knights are Machina who are temporarily given Edict/Raw magic and a powerful suit of armor to take on extremely dangerous missions that involve laws of physics and magic being in danger.
