Appears 25
Gender:
Female
Height:
5' 7"
Weight:
187 lbs
Species:
Bearded Vulture

Feral Height: 7'5" (Wingspan: 16ft)

Strengths:
Martial arts skills || Level-headed || Physical strength || Patience || Observational skills
Weaknesses:
Heat/Overheating || Deaf || Lack of battle experience || Smoke || Being grounded

Jamyang has learned some peculiar skills from her time spent with the Tibetan monks, one of them being their Lama-pai style. However, while she has practiced and memorized the various forms/punches, she has never actually put them to use in a proper fight. Yet. She has a severe lack of battle experience, especially in battles where she is unable to take flight. Her level-headed demeanor would likely disappear in a ground battle or claustrophobic space (for a birb) where many individuals have broken down into chaos. She'd devolve into a panic, unable to think of what to do to quell the fighting.
Jamyang's physical strength paired with her mother's teachings makes her excellent at shattering bones. The rest of her skills lie in her patience and powers of observation. Her attentive gaze misses nothing and her favored form of attack involves the element of surprise. She likes to swoop down on victims, pick them up to drop them, or knock them off of ledges. Utilizing her strength, she may fly an opponent up and pile drive them through the tree branches or into another undesirable spot.
Given the fact that she comes from a colder climate, she may be prone to heat/overheating, especially if she overworks herself. Engulfing smoke from a fire may render her useless and vulnerable. She's deaf. Without her eyes she's a sitting duck.

Personality:

  • Diligent || Calm || Generous || Curious || Loyal || Peaceful || Empathetic
  • Prone to Frustration || Destructive and hard to calm down at her worst || Workaholic || Bottles up stress || Insecure || Space-y/easily distracted

While she may appear to be an angry, intimidating individual, Jamyang is actually very calm, peaceful, and always lost in her own head when others prove to be impossible to communicate with. She works hard for her new clan, diligently seeing a task or challenge to completion. If the situation calls for it, she will do what she can to come up with her own solution to a problem, perhaps somewhat eager to prove anyone who might think her inferior wrong. She is always ready to learn anything that could aid her, her clan members-- or whatever seems interesting-- But she has a tendency to overwork herself, believing her family's place among the clan depends solely on her performance within her rank. She is determined not to fail them, and will treat anyone approaching the spirit tree with hostility severely. She takes her position very seriously.
Jamyang's keen eyes not only make her adept at observational learning, but heighten her awareness of another's mood just by paying attention to their expressions and body language. She is empathic and may try to make someone feel better with silly dirt drawings or gestures, the muscular lady surprisingly expressive when she's not spacing out. --This is because sign language grammar is reflected in the signers facial expressions. How else is one supposed to get a general idea of what she's trying to communicate without her expressions giving her gestures/signs some context?
Animals foreign to her will likely peak her natural curiosity. She may sit and stare at them or attempt to initiate some sort of interaction to see if they're friendly, although the same can be said for anyone new to her. Depending upon how well other animals receive her, her new life within the clan may awaken her childhood frustrations of being unable to converse with the people around her. Her patience might break down in the face of situations where others just aren't willing to work with her or can't understand what she's trying to get across. At her worst, she could fly into a fit of rage, destroying whatever she can get her claws on. When such episodes occur, it's very difficult to calm her back down.... but this isn't likely to happen unless her buttons are repeatedly pressed. Since she's deaf, it's a lot easier for her to take on stress and keep quiet about what's bothering her. The buildup may aid in turning her into a ticking time bomb ready to snap at the next person to even mildly annoy her. If these slips of temper happen, she might seclude herself away in shame to meditate and reflect on her actions. Her insecurity is fueled by her inability to tell what others are saying to each other when she's involved in conversations, and the fact that she feels like the only animal who can't hear or speak.... to other animals.

Likes:

Being up high || Peaceful individuals || Calming meditation || Practicing her kung fu || Meeting/watching others || Silly scrawlings in the dirt
Dislikes:
Dismissive people || Being left out in social situations || Getting caught up in conflict without the advantage of flight || Losing her temper || Those who pick on others || Being seen as inferior
|| Not being taken seriously

History:
Jamyang was a very frustrated child who would often act out in anger because she had no way of communicating with her family or the world around her. Her fellow bearded vulture clansmen did not have faith in her ability to survive or be a competent hunter because they did not see how she could possibly be taught any set of skills without the ability to hear/talk. Her mother, luckily had all the faith and patience to develop a way to teach Jamyang to curb her anger as well as hunt/shatter bones. She used gestures, simple scrawlings in the dirt, and taught the young bird to use meditation in order to maintain a calm mind, both of which effectively alleviated Jamyang's frustrations.
One day when out hunting, the curious vulture came across a monastery in the mountains. She observed the monks practicing their martial arts and became fascinated by it. Almost every day she would return to watch them and learn--much to her mother's displeasure when she found out. The monks took notice of Jamyang and eventually coaxed her down so they could meet their strange admirer up close. Her lack of hearing and language quickly became evident to them. Seeing as she could manifest herself in a human form, they decided to actively teach her sign language. She was then able to teach some signs to her begrudgingly grateful mother and fathers, making communication that much easier. Jamyang was so happy, but her brother was not so receptive to learning and thus continued to be a frustration to her.
The presence of the monks was largely accepted by the animals. However, growing encroachment from other humans began putting strain on the livelihood of her family and fellow animals. Her people were hunted as trophies, poisoned, or killed out of irrational fear. Her brother, incensed by these attacks, began recklessly retaliating despite being urged to keep his distance. As a result, the humans' fear grew into greater violence and he was killed. Jamyang and her distraught family had no choice but to flee. They'd heard of the happenings in the forest from migratory birds telling tales of their travels. Hoping for protection and isolation away from humans, they fled to the guardians of the forest spirit where Jamyang willingly pledged her services to the clan in exchange for her family's safety. She will work as hard as she needs to in order to guarantee their place among the others.

This character was created for an rp group so her information is still consistent with that and I don't exactly feel like going through and trying to fix it right now. Besides, I'm not even sure of what to do with her..... She's kind of. An original character now since no one can really say I'm not allowed to call a giant bird that can turn into a humanoid form an original OC.
