Darren is Hollie's dad and Mitzi's husband.. he's a laid-back and quiet dude who kinda keeps to himself but he's.. a pretty kind and sweet guy, overall. he and Mitzi met in college (they both went to this college for the arts and she was in the interior design program and he was in the culinary program but they had a few general education classes together since they were in the same year) and she was one of the very persistent few who managed to befriend him.. he was especially shy and withdrawn when he was younger mostly due to some uncool family junk going on in his life and that probably sounds rly cliche but whatever

Dare's parents are both doctors who do a lot of abroad travel to other countries so he'd sometimes go months upon months of not seeing them.. and was left in the care of older brother (by 2 years), Leo. onlyyy Leo and Dare do not get along in the slightest because Leo is a huge manipulative and abusive jerk who gets a kick out of tormenting his brother at any chance he can get. Unluckily for Dare as well, Leo went to the same college as him (in the music program tho) so avoiding him was always difficult. so basically as a result of his parents never being around and being bullied by his brother throughout his life, Dare has some depression, trust, anxiety, and social problems weighing heavily on his shoulders.. his story revolves mostly around overcoming his brother's abuse as well as learning to deal with depression and stuff. that's the gist of his back story i won't go into more ineloquent detail ffff

uhhhhhhhhh idk what else to say UM present-day Darren is a chef at this local fancy restaurant.. he's really good at cooking and baking and really enjoys doing them for his family and friends (lucky for Mitzi lol). Hollie definitely gets along with him more so than she does with her mother.. probably because Darren treats Hollie like an actual daughter unlike Mitzi does which is more friend or sister-like which is not... exactly the best way to treat your child lol.. at least in Hollie's case. other than that uhhhhhhh Darren's pretty much shut his brother Leo out of his life so they don't talk much... they have a few run-ins from time to time which are always fairly tense but for the most part they aren't at each other's throats anymore. Dare still hasn't fully overcome depression either.. it's something he's come to terms with that's always going to stick around with him, but he's come leaps and bounds from where he was in his early 20's which is progress. he just feels kind of guilty though because Hollie's shown some depression-like symptoms as well, but unlike him, she's too headstrong to admit she has them and is prone to bottling them up which is probably going to come back to bite her someday
