Jarnsaxa and Surtr, creations of Ymir, were the ones who spawned the Norns. They were given the responsibility of creating the world of mortals. The youngest Norn, Blothughadda, was tasked with breathing life into every known organism. The soul, conscience, humor and emotions are all attributed to Blothughadda, and she is commonly associated with the domains of Life, Spirit, Nature, Elements and Creation. She now forever sleeps at the bottom of the deepest waters, from which all life supposedly sprang, waiting for the day when her services are needed once more.

Blothughadda is, by most accounts, a mostly benevolent and nurturing spirit of nature. She is commonly attributed as a trickster of sorts as well, especially among the Black Elves who hold her in special reverence due to her association with creating the soul of nature, home of the elfkin. Followers of this ancient Jotun are commonly druids, hunters, fishermen, seidrfolk or farmers, and their lifestyle frequently revolves around the growth of the soil and landwork. Offerings to Blothughadda come in the shape of a small selection from a year's harvest of fruit and greens, and according to folklore will cause the fields to grow stronger.
