Born and raised in the slums of Darkwell, this girl was always meant to be a warrior. Her parents lived as part of the city, camouflaging themselves as regular humans by hiding their wings magically, as all blackwings can do. They worked hard to make a living and were nice, friendly people in their neighborhood. Xanna was an only child who did what she could to help her parents but always dreamed of more. She dreamed of adventure and seeing the world. Occasionally she tried to have such adventures with the other kids, but it usually turned out for the worse. Her father taught her how to wield a sword, while her mother taught her magic.
Her mother had always been sick, but it got worse when Xanna was around 10.
Her father was a former warrior, who had had to retire due to combat related injuries that would never fully heal. He ran into trouble one night while out late seeking medicine for Xanna's mother. He was jumped by bandits, and after revealing his wings in an attempt to frighten and fight them, he was struck down and killed. When he hadn't returned after a few hours, a worried Xanna snuck out to find him and headed toward the apothecary's shop. She reached it and woke the apothecary, who said that her father had not visited that night. He gave her the medicine, though, saying he would be over the next morning for payment, and returned to bed after wishing her a safe journey. Confused and concerned, Xanna headed home. Half way home she spotted some thugs leaning up against a wall. They watched her like hawks and as Xanna passed, she noticed they had bleeding wounds. And one of them was wearing a coat just like her father's. With the same stains. The same tears. And new blood smudged against it. She held back tears as she passed and could hear their footsteps as they followed her. She took a sudden turn down an alley way and ran. She let her wings appear and took off into the sky.

With each other's help, Xanna and her mother managed to just scrape by, but she knew she couldn't let her only child grow up to live in such a place. Nor would either of them likely survive if they continued to try. Her mother saved all she could to send Xanna to a nice new family who could take better care of her. She made Xanna promise that she would never show her wings to them, as many individuals believed blackwings to be evil due to their appearance. Her mother placed a temporary spell on her just to be sure she couldn't do so for the first few weeks. Xanna, not given much choice, was forced to go with them, and never saw her mother again.

The new family lived in Stonegate, far from Darkwell. Although they were friendly enough, they were strangers to her and living with them was uncomfortable, especially with "siblings". So, as soon as her mother's spell wore off, Xanna took her leave and ran away. The local authorities found her a few days later living on the streets and took her back home. Her new family were angry and hurt by what she had done, but forgave her; a trait she hadn't really expected to find in the stuck up humans. So she decided to give them a second chance and she stayed. As she lived her teen years among humans, she turned out to be quite the tom boy, often sparing with her older brothers rather than having tea parties with her sister. When she turned 18 she decided it was time she left the nest and spread her wings- figuratively. She never once revealed her true race to her adopted family who figured she was part elf, still convinced they would turn their backs on her if they knew. So she set out for that dream of adventure she had always hoped for and never looked back.

She flew solo for a while before she got into some trouble and was almost captured by some hungry orcs when an elf leaped in and saved her. He mended her wounds and for the next few years would be her mentor and closest adviser. He made a true warrior out of her, but then some important business split the team apart...

The Wizard's Dungeon Feb.22.2015
Xanna traveled alone again for another month or so, this time much more successfully than the first time she set out. But her lone-wolf status would be changed forever by a powerful wizard.

Not summoned but forcibly teleported, Xanna woke up one morning to find herself trapped in a dark dungeon. Upon waking a voice sounded, introducing her to her new hell. The voice introduced himself as a wizard who had brought her here after seeing her power and skill. That she would be forced to traverse his maze until she could either prove herself a champion and be rewarded...or die. That the only way out was to search, to fight, and to find the right key for the right door. Xanna was furious that her life was being used for such entertainment. But the walls of the underground maze prevented teleporting magic, and were impossible to dig through. She had no choice but to do as the wizard suggested.

And so alone, she traversed the maze. She avoided as many obstacles as she could, got lost a few times, was almost overwhelmed once or twice by the monsters and traps that were planted to best her. But staying silent and unseen, she remained alive in the maze for days, against all odds.

Then, to her amazement, she found another party. She hung back in the shadows, trying to decide if they were friend or foe. She watched as they approached a strange statue, and after touching it, the wizard's voice rang out again.

"Congratulations, you have found my statue. But can you beat my final test?"

And from the statue poured a horde of undead all across the huge cavern, surrounding the party. Realizing they were trapped here just like herself, Xanna knew she had to help them...because maybe they could help her in return. She swooped down from above to land near a skeleton, and with her great sword sliced it in two. Another skeleton replaced the first before it could even fall. Another flash of her sword, and the second skeleton fell into a heap as well.

By that time the group had everything under control, and Xanna watched as the group collectively destroyed the undead. Once the last orc had fallen, there was a moment of silence. The bodies and bones of the fallen dead began to vanish into glowing orbs until there was bright flash of light, and the group found themselves outside of the dungeon and in front of a castle.

"Congratulations, champions..."
