Bio:
Tara Brahmn was born in one of the poorer suburbs in Detroit to a small family. Her only sibling was a brother 10 years older than her, so she never really saw much of him. When she did it was usually watching as him and her parents were yelling at him for the trouble he had gotten into or because of his involvement in local gangs. Her parents were quite detached as she grew up, and Tara noticed that the only time they ever really paid any attention to her was when she was in trouble. Sadly this led to her almost following in her brothers footsteps. By the time she was 16, she already had a juvenile record. More often than not, she’d come home from school with a fresh bruise or two from another fight she had been in.
Shortly after her 18th birthday it was another typical day when she came home with a bloody lip and the sleeve on her shirt torn. Soon there was a shouting match between her and her father that took a nasty turn when Tara shouted that he was worthless and she’d be better off without him. Rising from his chair, her Dad slapped her across the face and raised his hand to do it again. When Tara braced for impact and didn’t feel the hint, she carefully opened one eye. Her father was still swinging at her, but the slap was slow and lethargic. Taking the opportunity, she blocked his strike and knocked him out with the fastest punch she’d ever thrown. Riding off the adrenaline of the moment, Tara quickly threw some of her belongings into a duffel bag, grabbed her savings, and left home without looking back.
It would take her several years to fully understand what she had done. During that time she made her way west, hitching a ride when she could and stealing money for food and bus fare. Eventually arriving in Las Vegas, Nevada, Tara did the only thing she really knew how to do well, fight. She eventually became one of the top underground fighters in the area, and a crowd favorite due to both being a woman and for quick strikes and kicks. As she got better with her powers she began using them to subtly turn fights in her favor, slowing down a punch so it didn’t do as much damage or accelerating her own attacks to hit harder.
Despite her confidence she’d hidden her abilities well, they nonetheless caught the eye of an up and coming villain called Skewer. Skewer himself challenged her to a fight after her matches had ended for the evening and quickly overpowered her, almost demonstrating his namesake when his claws extended and sharpened into long, deadly blades. Instead of maiming her, he instead offered her a job. He wanted Tara to be both an enforcer for him, as well as a distraction, luring his targets into a false sense of bravado. Tara accepted and spent 2 years working with him. Skewer paid real well, and she got to beat thugs senseless. She even began carrying pistols around with her that she practiced with to reinforce her personal bodyguard persona.
All if it came crashing down around her when they began operating in Colmaton. After beating a pair of drug dealers that owed Skewer money to death in the park, Tara and Skewer were distracted by movement from behind them. Ripping a large bush aside, she was shocked to find a small family had seen them. She wore a mask when she was working for Skewer so she knew her identity was safe, but the sight of the child clinging to his parents in fear disturbed her. Skewer didn’t care though, and ordered Tara to kill them. After hesitating, she told him she wouldn’t do it. Skewer sighed, and then stabbed her in the back with claws. Shoving Tara aside, he advanced on the family and was about to finish them off when he suddenly could barely move.
Tara had anticipated he wouldn’t be happy with her choice, but at that point her mind was made up. Stepping between him and the family, she calmly pulled out a pistol, thanked him for their years together, and after making sure they covered the child’s eyes she killed Skewer.
That one night changed her life forever. Realizing that she couldn’t go back to the life she had led, she decided that the only way to atone for her past was to do what she did best, fight. Only this time, she would be fighting for others instead of herself. She may never consider herself a heroine, not after the life she’s led, but now at least she can start to look at herself in the mirror again. She is Tempus, and she is a fighter.
Personality:
Tempus is very distrusting of authority figures given her criminal past, and as such is almost hostile towards BOS members. Unregistered heroes are cut a little bit of slack, but Tara prefers almost exclusively to work alone. She also attempts to keep a low profile, deciding the less that’s known about her the better. Tara comes off as cynical and a bit of a bitch to keep people away, but in truth she’s just afraid of being abandoned if they ever found out more about her.
Tara is actually very well off from both the pay she received from her time working with Skewer, and from his account that she raided after his death. However, she maintains a part-time job at a delivery service to try and rebuild some sense of normalcy in her life. She drives an older car as a civilian, but has a newer and customized motorcycle to get around as Tempus.
She maintained a certain list of contacts from her old life; ones that she knew weren’t really bad but had been forced into the situations they were in. A handful of them she even took out their bosses for them to earn their freedom. This network gets her access to gadgets and other gizmos ordinarily out of her reach, and helps her protect herself and others a little better in her fight against crime.
