Oh my little Devons. Devon is one of the most important of all of my voices. One of the key reasons being that he and I are in essence, the same person. Of all of my voices Devon is the one most like me, look at him and you are looking directly into me.
I first want to point out that Devon was NOT born blind! He did not become as such until about a year and a half after his "creation." Devon's biography is going to be a little different than the rest of my characters, I feel to understand him and the role he plays I need to explain the life he has led.

Devon's last name, Delacoeur, is French for "From the Heart." This is a recent adjustment, as Devon's last name was, for years "Satanica." If it's not obvious Devon was "created" when I was 15. Devon is one of my voices that has undergone the most drastic evolutions since his birth. Originally Devon was brought about to be a sexy little gay boy, a party monster, a whore that sleeps around, a character to basically be an "all for fun" sort of guy. He was meant to roll with the trouble crowd, headed up by, of course, Neema. That changed about as soon as he came about. Immediately he was paired off with my friend Courtney's Punk-Rock Rottweiler Virus, and his big heart became apparent from that moment forward.

Devon was immediately a character that showed love and devotion. And from day one Devon was a character everyone loved. I was pleasantly surprised by this, and it ultimately influenced his development tremendously. So many people cared about Devon and had characters that developed feelings for Devon that it influenced his relationships. I can only recall one time when Devon was single - and that was when he tried to take his own life and blinded himself. And that was from his own flirtations and ruining two relationships at once from his behavior.

It was because of this behavior that Devon developed the way he did. Devon's past remains a pertinent part of his history and growth, even though he changed shortly after his "creation." He was a "slut" when he was younger, he was known for his looks, his promiscuity, and his aberrant behavior (drug use, drinking, smoking, all that stuff that seems hardcore when you're in your teens). He slept with men and women alike, anyone, and was a drug addict for years. He lived on the street for some time to escape his sexually and physically abusive Father, and got his own place with the help of Neema's friend Sugar's family after some intervention.

So when Devon finally felt he had changed, yet ruined two relationships at once and two of his chances at true love, he lost it. All because of his stupid flirtatious people pleasing behaviors. He was 18 at the time, he was a late bloomer when it came to love, and having found it he quickly broke when he lost it. After feeling these intense emotions of heartbreak for a few days he realized he could not handle it and decided to end his own life. He had always been a cutter, so his response was immediately to slash his wrists, but this quickly escalated. He broke the mirror in the bathroom he stood in, unable to stand his own beautiful reflection. As he slashed his wrists he didn't stop there - he deserved more. He took the glass to his eyes and dug across and through them, completely blinding himself. He felt he did not deserve to see, as following his sight had caused him nothing but pain to himself and others throughout his entire life.

Of course he didn't expect to survive, as none of us do when we attempt suicide seriously. His attempt was severe and not in vain - he cut through veins and arteries in his wrists, nicked his jugular, not to mention the extensive amount of blood vessels that feed the eyes. He passed out. But somehow, his best friend Neema knew something was wrong. She knew how strongly her little doberman felt emotions and when he didn't respond to her calls she ran to his run down apartment in the ghetto, broke down the door, picked up his tiny body and ran him to the hospital. (Gravity may have had a hand in this)

Of course he survived. Bitter, broken and blind. But Devon adjusted to his handicap, and became stronger for it. It changed him, it made him realize how little a role beauty plays in life, but how strong a role character and personality do. Devon has basically been reborn - given another chance at life, given this handicap to guide him in a way he could not "see" before. He has had to relearn almost everything, from walking to writing. But his patience has grown incredibly. He is much softer now, that wild Devon of the past is long gone.

Devon always felt too strongly, he was always too much of an empath. His sleeping around and partying to his strong love and giving of himself to all he meets were coping mechanisms to his intense emotions. Ultimately - Devon is the ultimate people pleaser. He will alter himself and change himself to be exactly what you want him to be. He will be the friendly ear, he will be the perfect lover, he will be the voice of reason - he will always be that gentle soul that gives you exactly what you need, stuffing his own feelings and beliefs down so deep even he doesn't know what they are. He will do anything for others at the expense of himself.

So, Devon's "purpose" amongst my cast of primary voices: Devon represents pure love and heartbreak. This seems to be an oxymoron, and it is, for Devon is a walking oxymoron. Devon is emotion, empathy, love, heartbreak, trust, naivety, innocence and broken innocence, purity and impurity, he is selfless and he is selfish, he embodies the need to please everyone. Devon feels emotions so strongly, too strongly, to the point that he hurts so much for others. This is a fault of mine as well. Devon is the ear for everyone to go to, he is everyone's "psychiatrist" and confidant, just as I am. He will never turn a soul away, he will always be there for anyone.

Devon's relationship with Hush has been the ultimate breakthrough in his life. In the past Devon was always in relationships with others like himself, emotionally needy, a symbiotic type of relationship. But from the day he met Hush that was different. Devon was immediately devoted to Hush, even though it took Hush time to be exclusively devoted to Devon. For Hush is Heart-Break and Devon is True-Love. They are yin and yang, and they balance each other perfectly. Devon doesn't need someone like himself, he needs someone opposite, that will challenge him, and even hurt him at times, but through this will show him what true love really is. Hush's "hurt" is not intentional, he is not an emotionally intense person like Devon is, and Devon has had to learn that sometimes you can feel too much. That sometimes you need not stress and worry and obsess over someone. That knowing they love you unequivocally is enough. Hush seems cold, superficial and distant, but loves his little doberman to no end. He is beyond protective of him, and covets him. He loves Devon for who he is, for his devotion, for his love, for the purity he has that he does not.
They are true love. And Devon has finally found what he has been searching for all his life.

Typical Clothing: Devon is always looking adorable. He is, and always has been, one of those very flamboyant gay guys. He is also a cross dresser, and is often mistaken for a girl. He loves wearing dresses, skirts, corsets. He takes a more gothic/gothic lolita approach to a gay cross dresser adding in fishnets, striped stockings, etc. But, at times, prefers the pastel and more muted approach. There are the rare times he sticks to the flamboyant gay guy look, with nice pants and a striking shirt, scarf, hat and shoes to match. But he prefers the girly clothes, with boots and loves his heels, since it makes him a little taller than he is. And man he loves combat boots. You'll see him in thigh highs often. He also has some fun with bondage gear, though you probably won't see him in that, since he usually keeps that quiet and wears that only with Hush as their little secret.
It's interesting because you can sometimes tell who dressed Devon for a day. As he is blind his friends often step up and dress him, sometimes to help using his own clothing, sometimes they ask if they can dress him how they see fit. So somethings you see their touch in his looks. Or sometimes they don't tell him (HI NEEMA) and let him be surprised at the comments he gets.
Piercings: Double lip on alternate sides, labret, monroe on right, bridge, belly button, prince albert, nipples, tongue, multiple piercings in ears - at least one industrial in each, up to 8 piercings in right ear, around 6 in left.
Jewelry: Always wearing some sort of dangly earring in first hole on ear - usually stars, sometimes hearts. ALWAYS wearing choker/collar/viewer's choice necklace with half a heart pendant that matches the other half worn by Hush.
Tattoos: Broken heart over heart on left side of chest, stitched through the middle with dagger with heart shaped adornment piercing heart - Pink and red. On back Tree of Life with hearts formed at tips of winding branches with butterfly wings embedded around the center of the tree. Scars: Random scars all over body from self harm. Faint scars remain around eyes where he cut them. This is why Devon typically wears large amounts of makeup. He is able to apply it himself from practice, but is often assisted by Hush, Lulu, Troi, Neema, or any of his other friends.
