A character I love dearly (I especially love to RP him), but he's never really settled into any of my worlds, and so remains kind of a perpetual outlier. This is a shame, because he's loads of fun.

Let's start with the basics: Pons is a representative of a monothetistic religion referred to solely as The Church.*

By his own account, he was taken into The Church at a young age--presumably orphaned, he was raised by The Church, making it both his family and his world, if you care to take it that far.

Unsettlingly calm, he can seem (or even be) a bit callous, but this is often due in large part to his lack of nonprofessional interpersonal experience and high prioritising/objectivity, not genuine disregard for other people's well being. (Or is it?) Pons is notoriously vague on time and personal matters and will give strange answers or blanket/repetitive/simplified ones to any related questions that may be asked of him--they are not incorrect, but may be a repeat of something you already know, or not really helpful. He is determined to keep his private life... well, I guess private. He is uniformly considerate, though, if a little obscure at times.

Pons is a collector of Holy (and occasionally neutrally magicked) artefacts, which have been scattered through history across the globe, and he is as passionately dedicated to acquiring "holy" artefacts as he is to destroying "unholy" ones. He's most distinguished not by his religious fervor but by his apparent passivity, his devotion to The Church and God contrasted heavily with his utter and complete neutrality to himself and the world around him--acceptance and indifference appear to go hand in hand, and his primary concerns appear to be singularly his duties and his personal interests, which appear to be limited only to his collection and the study of further relics. He is usually serious and almost unnaturally placid and level, and while his intelligence and experience go a long way, it is not entirely certain whether he actually believes in the God he is so devoted to. But certainly he does....?

Extensively knowledgeable in the fields of magic, rituals, and religion, he is a good orator and a methodical thinker, and he endeavours to do his duty in all things; he is not, however, above the use of force, and may just have a surprise or two hiding up his sleeves... or elsewhere.

Equipment:

  • Morion Cross: this is a small cross carved out of polished, faceted Morion smoky quartz, perhaps five inches long and three and a half inches wide, worn on a silver chain. It has been ritualistically purified and empowered with the conviction of righteous belief made manifest--as long as the user is touching or holding the cross, they are able to project their belief in tangible form through pure force of will. In other words, supernatural shit stands a good chance of being at least temporarily repulsed.

  • Knives of Hamartia: this is a set of four silver throwing knives, obviously well-cared-for antiques, with elaborately decorated handles depicting the Serpent in the Garden of Eden twined around them, holding the blasphemous apple in its mouth to form the pommel. These knives were used by an insane, devout priest in an extreme act of mortification of the flesh, reenacting the Crucifixion with himself. It isn't entirely clear what he was aiming for with this, considering the artifact's use--perhaps the annihilation of impure flesh and the individuality and weak humanity of his spirit. When thrown, any part of the body that the blade hits will be warped, melted, or otherwise harmed. It can and will also do spiritual damage--however, they are not meant for close combat, and Pons relies entirely on distance to fight anything.

*The Church is sort of a conglomeration of many forms of Christianity from around the world, and is not meant to be representative of anything in particular.
