This is the most personal piece of artwork I've ever shared online, ever.

It took a lot of debating, but I decided to finally introduce this girl to the world. She has been my imaginary friend since before grade school. No matter how much magic seems to fade in the world, she remains bright and shining like my soul. I see her almost every day since creating her. I've only shared her with 4 people in my life before now. One of which I regret immensely, and is part of what brought me to consider sharing her.

Maggie is an alidragorn, a hybrid of the alicorn & dragon. Two of my favorite things as a kid :P She was inspired by Castle Keeps Gargoyles (a toy from the 80's I loved), Falcor of Neverending Story (I loved his shimmery scales that sparkled through his fur), two books by Madeleine L'Engle, and various other hyper-girly things from my childhood.

She can change size from kitten to house. This is exactly how I used to describe her to my grandmother, using my hands to pantomime holding a kitten then pointing to a house or nearest building. Her wings can also change size. When they are tucked in, they are practically invisible and hide behind her fur. When fully open, especially when she's in her larger size, they're massive. I used to imagine her flying alongside the car and zipping through trees or other narrow places by tucking in her wings then opening them back up on the other side. She can glide for hours, and her wings cast a rainbowy light on the ground below her. Anywhere you might expect a shadow to be cast from her body, light beams down instead, lighting up every crevasse of dark. Her iridescent scales shimmer mainly in yellow-green-turquoise. She used to give me her shed scales to decorate my hair with and cradle me in her pearlescent purple hooves. She can have more or fewer alicorn-like traits. Sometimes she has more fluff and big, white feathered wings that shimmer with the same iridescence, sometimes a long horselike tail, sometimes soft equine ears. She has a third eye which can turn into a super long, singular, straight horn that she uses to sing and see into our dimension with. Any time I would get scared, I would sing her song and she could find me, or I would hold up one of her scales and she could see it with her horn shining through into her world.

I'm working on a children's book with her. It involves her finding child-me in the dark and making horrible parts of my childhood better. I hope for it to inspire parents to encourage their child's imagination and never make them feel they should give up their imaginary friends, as without mine, I don't know what would have happened to me. Whether she's real or just a result of my young mind's desperate desire for a shining light of hope to guide me... She saved me. She's why I started drawing, and I drew her a LOT.

At first I was fearful of sharing her and having her ripped off from unimaginative people who don't respect what she means to me. But you know what? No matter how closely someone might copy her or how people try to twist her, it doesn't even matter. She is a part of me. She's been with me since childhood. No one can ever truly take her from me.

Please do not be a jerk and save this image to re-share it elsewhere. Don't edit the art or role play with her. I realize I'm taking a risk by posting her, but it would be awesome if you could keep from being the person to make me regret sharing her. If you would like to draw her, I'd be EXTREMELY honored, though I ask that you do not draw her if you are uncomfortable with my request that you only share the art with me. Your art is your art and you do with it what you want, but you do not have permission to draw her if you are not okay with these conditions. Thank you. <3

Weasyl is the first public place I'm sharing her, and I'm actually thinking it will be the only place to find her. Thanks for being awesome, Weasyl. <3

Beautiful art, beautiful story. Thank you so much for sharing her with us, and facing that fear of people copying her.

this is all so beautiful ;o; the image, the description, everything ;o; i really wish i still had the ability to imagine really awesome things, sadly adulthood has pretty much crushed that in me x.x in a way im a little jealous you managed to hang on to that. i think that's amazing. the other thing i think is amazing is you writing children's books - YES. YES. YES. YES. DO THIS PLEASE. i will buy them all and read them to...my cats >.> (i won't ever have children...but IF I DID oh my gosh <3333) i'm also glad you decided to share her, she's so beautiful and the falcor bits oh my gosh <333 her face and that hair....just everything ;o; i seriously want to see so many pictures of her now especially with the things that you described! (like the wing/light flying descriptions <333)

    beautiful :))

She's so damn gorgeous <3 Someone's it's scary how similar we are on some things... When I was little I had an imaginary dragon friend (who I forgot his name but in High School dubbed him Fjain).

Maggie is beautiful and I'm glad you shared her with all of us :) Can't wait to see what you do with the children's book!

I would love, love, LOVE to create some gift art of her for you, because this story you shared really inspired me as well as brightened my estranged day. If you say no, I can understand 110%. Imaginary creatures are so very special to everyone who meets them, and this one is no different. <3

Not sure if you saw before I added it, but I added a tidbit near the end about my conditions on it! I'd love for someone other than someone who hates my guts to draw her (the only other artist who has drawn her is someone I didn't even want to KNOW about her, and both the artist and the person who told them about Mag wound up being a a nasty poop). :c

I just read it, and I totally, totally, understand. My desires to draw her come from a very pure place because I feel a deep connection to the magical place she comes from. I, personally, would be honored to draw her, in hopes he would help bring me back to the place I once was long ago where I could reconnect with my own special, childhood friends. <3

I am extremely happy to know your most comfertale shareing her with us here. Shes wonderful and I hope to see more of her.

She's so vibrant and colorful and really has that sense of childlike wonder and magic about her, everything a good imaginary friend should be. She's much cooler than mine was. :P I know how scary it is to share such special and personal things, but I'm glad I got to see her. Thank you for sharing her with us!

I want to draw her, but my artwork is comical and silly in nature, and I'm not sure if that'd be something she'd fit with?

  • Link

    Very sweet ;-; <3

  • Link

I have an imaginary spirit that follows me too, but it's form was never quite so fleshed out as hers. She's beautiful.

  • Link

She really does live up to her name - Magnificent~♪

  • Link

This is very vibrant and wonderful ♥ I love how colorful and alive your pieces look :]

its late at night here and I gotta go to bed for work for tomorrow. I'm going to come back and read about your girl here..and I already love her colours and appearance <3 i'm excited to read about her :)

  • Link

She's beautiful! I love the colors. The story is great too, it's so nice to see how people envision their imaginary friends, thanks for sharing it!

  • Link

    So adorable aaaaa

  • Link

She's beautiful and you're very wonderful for sharing such a gorgeous part of your life with us ;3; I used to have an imaginary friend named Ladder and she was a unicorn. This kind of reminds me of her?? I miss her and should bring her back in some way. As a kid who had really intense imaginary friends and ALSO regrets sharing them with someone who used to be very close, I understand how big a deal this is and have serious respect for you sharing her! All my characters are basically evolved versions of my old imaginary friends from when I was little and in grade school. I had the same ones up to like 8th grade. Also a side note on her design--those wings are incredible. <3

She is quite a beautiful and majestic imaginary friend. It shows that you have a real innate talent for imagination and you should cherish it. :)

I'm so glad you share her with us! She is VERY beautiful! This drawing made me have memories of a few imaginary friends I had. Especially one imaginary friend in particular, Poe. Which was a super long bodied white cat creature, with one eye (They were inspired by "The Never Ending Story"'s dragon. Lol. Makes me want to draw them @~@ lol.

Oh my god..... this is stunning! <3

Thank you for sharing her, Vera! She is absolutely beautiful! ♥

"I used to imagine her flying alongside the car"

I only learned like, last year or so that is is a really common thing that kids do. My first imaginary friend jumped alongside the car, in the trees and off any object, even the clouds.

" She has a third eye which can turn into a super long, singular, straight horn that she uses to sing and see into our dimension with. "

    I like that.

"and never make them feel they should give up their imaginary friends, as without mine, I don't know what would have happened to me"

Still got mine https://www.weasyl.com/submission/366806/sidney-s-desk He takes care of me, guide, protector, self-confidence, voice of reason, fear slayer, spirit guide, companion.

"No one can ever truly take her from me."

    Most trustworthy friend.

*Sid is a different fellow than did the jumps-along-side-the-car thing. Sid showed up later.

Thanks for sharing her with us. :) I'm glad that you are proud to do so. I know I have a few people I wouldn't mind openly sharing, so this is kind of inspiring. Thanks for that, and she's beautiful. I hope she continues to bring sunshine to your world. <3

Here I thought I was one of the few people who still beleived in imaginary friends and creatures. She is absolutly beautiful, just looking at this makes me feel calm and happy inside. I'd really love to draw her sometime and trust me I understand your terms completely. I myself have never shared my own imaginary friend just because of the same reasons that you were hesitant for. She really is magnificent. <3

She is GORGEOUS! I love the colors and her asthetic in general ( having been one of those kids that was also into all those hyper-girly things and the fantasy stuff) I'm glad you decided to share her =]

  • Link

She is incredibly beautiful. What a presence :)
I think the story behind her is just lovely, and I find the fact she can change from kitten to house-size just adorable.
Please don't let others stifle your work - I understand you being nervous to share, because of how cruel people can be, but I'm so glad you chose to share this.
    Awesome stuff. :)

I don't even know where to start; first off, I just...I love her.
She is just so beautiful and radiant. Her colours are fantastic, the pinks and purples...I just want to hug her. >///<
I'm so glad to see that you decided to share such a gorgeous creature with us. I almost really would love to draw her but I absolutely understand if you wouldn't want that. ^^
