This double fan-video/tribute/mashup/OP/AMV thing was something I thought of on a lark and decided to create as an entry in AlfaFilly:'s contest celebrating the 10th/11th anniversary of her comic The Selection ...Which has nothing to do with Evangelion, but somehow ended up combining fairly well with the original imagery (among the myriad of Eva OP parodies.)

For the video I used a lot of art from the actual comic, though almost every instance of it is edited in some way to make it closer to the shot from the OP it is referencing. For a few shots I did a draw-over of the original art to either increase fidelity when scaled to 1080p, or closely reference iconic poses from the anime with Filly's sparkle-alien characters.

Since this is intended to ape an animated show however, I did some actual animating for a few of the extended shots too. This was done in Flash/Animate and everything was combined and edited together in After Effects. It isn't the highest framerate or most complex movement I've done by any means, but for what is arguably a 1:31 long in-joke, I think it turned out looking pretty nice!
(Especially Jacky's wine-sipping, because of course I'd put the most effort into her segment.)

It was a fun challenge trying to balance keeping the shots faithful to the original OP while using mostly Filly's comic pages as sources, and also make some kind of narrative sense with the comic's plot. So whether you are familiar with the anime, or The Selection comic, or neither, I hope you enjoy this bit of unmitigated silliness, because I had a lot of fun cramming in jokes and references into the many split-second cuts this OP is known for.

The music is of course from the Neon Genesis Evangelion, and is definitely not mine!
