  Definitely not, if only because I have never seen that show. But I was thinking a little of that sort of technokid movie/TV image -- probably more from The Goonies. Certainly a reason to have such a needlessly complex setup.

    It reminds me a bit of http://dilbert.com/strip/1992-12-30 and http://dilbert.com/strip/1992-12-31 . Before everything got integrated into a phone, you could get lots of small portable devices, but each one only did one thing.
