Skypiercer by Wilren

Skypiercer

Wilren

Recently, a lot of my creative efforts have been aimed at insectoid fantasy creatures. Some of them have been rather tame, some are what Celine rightly described to me as "biological Protoss Carriers."

Then there's the Skypiercers. LITERALLY the creatures of my nightmares. The most horrific creature I have ever been able to imagine is a flying scorpion. In my mind, they're just regular scorpions with long, dragonfly/mantis-like wings and the thought just creeps me the hell out.

Skypiercers were born of that concept, and cranked it to 11. My childhood nightmare was a regular-sized insect. This thing is the size of a truck. That maw is large enough to devour a man whole.

The digestive acids it can spew will eat through metal. The paralytic venom of its tail can bring down a creature twice its size in moments...or a human quickly enough that they don't even feel it. Its forelimbs act as both sickle and crusher, slicing prey open or squeezing it to the point of breaking.

In whatever fantasy world exists in my head that all these insectoids are born from, the Skypiercers are the indisputable apex predators.
