According to the Denver Butterfly Pavilion, March 11th, 2017 was World Spider Day! So I spent most of Saturday drawing this to celebrate. Here I am holding a Goliath Birdeater, a type of tarantula native to the Amazon.
(irl I ended up going to the Butterfly Pavilion on the day after Spider Day with troj and got the chance to hold a Chilean rose-haired tarantula, which was pretty cool. I'm excited to go back to the Pavilion sometime soon with another friend.)
While a lot of my friends and family are pretty major arachnophobes, I didn't end up with that particular fear, I guess. Oh, I have a healthy fear of poisonous spiders--black widows, for example, give me the serious creeps--but I find most spiders to be super cute. Tarantulas are so fuzzy! I just want to give them a hug! :D
[Nota bene: ...It is not a good idea to actually hug a spider.]
