I've been meaning to do this for awhile, but I couldn't settle on the perfect subject. Finally chose a jackalope.
This is a gift for the amazing *shepaintswithblood. One of my favorite artists of all time, and great friend. Here's to you sweetie.
I wanted something mystical, magical, with a sweet feel to it. At first the 'lope was holding a decorative stick thingy in it's mouth, but it made it feel too...incense-y. Fine, just not the look I was going for. I like the branches better.
Was a fun one to paint with acrylics. The scan turned out nearly greyscale (wtf.) so I had to photograph it, and for some odd reason you can see a ton of the brush strokes, like the original that I used to cover the canvas. Strange.
Did like 98% of it with acrylics, and then took a couple of coloured pencils and refined some things, like the fur and the colours. I love doing that. Its pretty shiny in real life, used a couple of metallic colours.
Jackalopes are said to be a combo of jack rabbit and antelope. Didn't want to go with the typical whitetail antlers or the pronghorn horns, so went with a Kudu. And kinda wanted to give the feeties a hoof-like feel, but I failed there.

Enjoy!! Feedback would be hugely appreciated as always!
