Xorothix Compiled Concepts

Sparkyopteryx

Aaaand last but not least in my flood of Alteir and character concepts is my other half's newly recreated and redesigned mad scientist dragon Xorothix. Older followers of mine might recognize the name but surely do not recognize the face; that's because this guy since he was created almost 5 years ago has gone through four design and concept changes. I think he has finally come into his own though.

Oh boy, here comes some info!
~~Xorothix here is one of the newer species of true dragons. 4th generation is what dracomorphologists call them, although what they mean by generation is a bit different that the normal concept applied to mortals; it does not indicate actual generation but means they are 4 steps removed from the original progenitor dragons, the Primordials. So "newer" is somewhat relative as well.
~~No one actually knows what his original variety of dragon he was, as he was hatched in an underground area that was replete with magic, thus altering his physiology. He is also a self-proclaimed flesh shaper, so he has experimented on himself extensively, making identification even more difficult.
~~Various alterations he has given himself through magical surgery and alchemical means are his striking and unusual coloration, the bizarre sensory organs in his tongue, denser musculature and mole-like front claws that allow him to burrow. He has plans for yet more augmentations in the future.
~~In addition to being an ambitious intellectual, he is also a deft politician, finding ways of using his influence in the continents of Sorensia and Cryllt to funnel extra funds to his hoard and questionable experiments, as well as helping him indulge in his many vices and love for collecting female servants.
~~The figure pictured with him is his favorite pet, plaything and spy Athyltiess (Of which I'm working on a proper character sheet for).

Coloring him was definitely a taxing experience, and I wish I could have done some things differently, but I'm at least satisfied with it. Naturally with most of my concept and reference sheets, rendering and coloring is a bit messy but that is how I do them; form and function over beauty. Got a lot of inspiration from various sharks, sea krait and even a bit of stonework for the way he and his markings look, while his tongue definitely reminds me of the structures of certain flowers, and just a little bit of Otachi from Pacific Rim, hah.

Character design and concept was again created as a joint effort by myself and the fiance. The setting he is in is my intellectual property, and character belongs to MisterMidnight

Whoa this is totally gorgeous! Love the color and design a lot!

Thank you! I've found you can never go wrong getting inspiration for dragons from sea creatures...

He's one of those frustrating characters in that you shouldn't like him because he's so horribly evil, but you cannot help but like him somewhat because of his charisma.

This design is definitely the pinnacle, the top-shelf of imagining him. It was a blast coming up with it all and seeing how amazing the parts we used turned out. I look forward to the future.

Also I'd love me some damn jewelry with colors like his.

I dislike this character for that, but definitely a dislike that is a good thing. One of those characters that you'll see in a TV show or movie and know that he will fuck something up in the plotline, but you can't help but be a little compelled to watch the process in awe and horror.

Once the campaign for this week is done, I'll try to get Athy's half done, that way there is more depth and context for the both of them.

That looks really annoying... Which is why is totally awesome! Great work.

The markings are definitely annoying, haha. Eminently effective for keeping his outline broken up and hard to pinpoint when he is surrounded by darkness and stone however.

I really love this slight "demon jester" feel to the face.

Hah, you know I never thought of his features quite like that but I like that association!
