El Mi'Raj Version 2 by Paul Lucas

El Mi'Raj Version 2

Paul Lucas

I already did a concept sketch of the El Miraj a bit back, but i wanted to try for a more streamlined design That I could maybe get around to inking and coloring sometime soon. The sixth page of my new sketchbook, btw, for those keeping track.

The idea here centers around turning the myth of the El Mi'raj, from arabian myth, into a fantasy race I'm using in my ongoing D&D campaign. In the original folklore, el mi'raj were evil yellow-furred rabbits with a long unicorn-like black horn on their foreheads. They were carnivorous and used their horns to impale creatures much larger than themselves, and then gorge themselves. But most notoriously they were known for spreading plague and pestilence.

The fantasy race of the El Miraj are a small, somewhat isolated race known for strong magic and shapeshifting so they can hide among mortals. Their horns are magic, and with them can induce and manipulate diseases. When an el mi'raj dies, their horns are removed and by magical means forged into various black-bladed weapons. These weapons have all the disease-inducing powers of a living el mi'raj's horn a swell as inducing normal magical weapon damage.

I have done pin-up versions of el mi'raj females before, which can be found in my gallery.
