Horuri Leather Badge Commission by Nashoba Hostina

Horuri Leather Badge Commission

Nashoba Hostina

Commission for my friend and fellow Steampunk, Gunny!

I think this might be my best leather piece to date, which is good, because I wasn’t sure I could do a decent job when I took this commission on. In a way, this is more durable than a traditional paper badge, as it won’t crease or tear, but it can be scratched and like paper, it will likely be damaged if it gets wet.

The character itself was an interesting challenge, due to the coloration. Cream next to white next to pink and light blue. Very little contrast in the color scheme meant I needed contrast in lighting, but it turned out okay.

The original plan was for the danglie piece to be made of nice paper, but I found that it was just too fragile and had to go with a substitute. For that, I chose distressed cloth, since it would be the place to get the most wear and tear, and steampunk is all about theming. (Besides, that way it could be two-sided, with Horuri on one side, and her other nickname, Gunny, on the other.)

I had a delay due to inability to locate more metal corner pieces, but finally acquired and applied them today! Hooray!
