Understory Robin by Nambroth

Understory Robin

"Understory Robin" American Robin, 8"x10" Oil.

American Robins are so ubiquitous in many areas of North America that I think they almost become "background noise" and are overlooked by many. I find these thrushes very beautiful and admire their adaptive natures that have allowed them to keep up with our ever increasingly changed environments. They are so frequently observed in mowed yards that it might be hard to think of them in their more natural habitats. I find a certain delight when I see one working the understory in a wooded area.

Great picture. But it sparked a horrible idea in my head, you should do a picture with a bat, a man and a robin in it and you can call it Bat, Man and Robin! I know, terrible!

There is a certain grace to American robins, and I'm glad that they're common birds because that means I get to see them more often.

It took me a while to recognize their songs, because until recently most of the time I encountered them they just hopped about and observed me quietly. But in the early morning, on the way to the bus terminal, I had been hearing this most beautiful song, and eventually I spotted the talented vocalist responsible for it: The familiar robin, up bright and early and dressed professionally as always.
