These birds are a favorite, and this painting fell together in a magical way. I normally wash my painting surface with a warm color first and this time when the acrylic dried it did some magical, watercolor-like effects that I enjoyed so well that I didn't paint over them the way I normally would! And the heron itself painted so easily and naturally... it is rare painting that I didn't fight with!

It looks like either the bird is resting his head on his wing in thought or ready to punch some one. Either way this is a beautiful portrait !

Gotta love the waterbirds. Black Crowned Night Herons are another personal fav. :)
