Michael's education in the history of the previous 20,000 years begins. He learns about the creation of the humanimals, their struggle for freedom and acceptance. He is also taught Social Studies where he learns that the country is split into seven regions each with a regional capitol where regional laws are passed an implemented. He also learns why this is the situation.

When his teacher tells him he may have to marry a humanimal woman, Michael's upbringing comes to the forefront as he says unequivocally that that idea is abhorrent to him but he leaves the door open to the possibility.

Ophelia doesn't interfere with Amanda's going to work. She merely reiterates her wish that Amanda doesn't go to work. Amanda joins Wanda, Bertha, and Michelle for lunch. As they eat, each one relates a bit about their life, except for Wanda who believes that there's no need for Amanda to know about her past. When Michelle talks about her past, she is distraught enough that she has a hard time telling it. When she reveals her secret, Amanda is compassionate and motherly toward Michelle.
