Twist The Cat (2018 REDESIGN) by Mr. Dubcat

Twist The Cat (2018 REDESIGN)

Mr. Dubcat

Redesigning Twist has never been a new concept.

The first drawing of this concept was first shown on the first of January, 2014. In January 2014 ID- Revolution., Twist was drawn with a neck, something that's never appeared in any of my characters because of my style at the time. This sparked interest in me, wanting to create a new style, presumably in favor of replacing my previous style (which I dub "The Stump", for the obvious design) for the new year and so, this began the process of creating a new character style. Throughout the following months, many concepts were drawn and discarded, eventually reaching to "Revolution '14- 3.0" design, first shown here in March. This art style, while very stylish and complemented Twist's personality very well, there was one problem, a major problem. Since Twist was my "model" when drawing up concepts, I didn't think about all my other characters that I've created before, so when I drew them with this character style, they didn't look the way I wanted to be. No effort was done to actually fix this, instead only drawing Twist with this way until early May when I decided to scrap the new character style and revert back to my old style and stay like that for the rest of the year.

With 2015 coming along, there was a goal to make the year better when it comes to my social and school life, as well as my art, as 2014 was notorious for being a rocky and tiresome year. For the first three months, nothing too big had happened, but that would all change the next month...

When Gale was released on April 13, he became the first character to feature a snout. This was groundbreaking, opening a whole new breed of characters with snouts throughout the Spring and Summer seasons. On October 22nd that same year, Rapdonians, my 2nd custom alien species was released. The figures shown in the picture were drawn with something never seen in a year, a neck. The very thing I tried to incorporate into a new style for 2014 and failed looked so much better than my first attempt. The design of the aliens (the one on the left is named Zion, by the way) looked so fantastic, during the last months of 2015 and the entirely of 2016, I began to incorporate their neck and stout design into several new characters I created!

Besides a major redesign for Gale, making him more resemble a sergal than his first version, 2017 during the spring and half of the summer was very quiet, nothing as big as last year. On August 10th, however, while doodling in my sketchbook, I drew up Twist with a snout, looking rather very impressive. More doodles were done since then, eventually giving me the idea to return to the concept of creating a new character style to replace my old style.

It was then decided that I would create an entirely new character art style for GToons-Inc once more, however, things would be done completely different than the previous attempt. For one, instead of using Twist as our "model", the model would be a new character made for this job, to ensure that the style would be universal to all my characters, and second, extensive browsing was made to find inspiration and make my style look, well, stylish. With these in place, the main goal was to create a new style to GToons in the span of 6 months, from August to December. As the weekdays and weekends passed, I was hard at work. Concepts were made, discarded, and even concepts combined with others to create one whole design, but after all that, I had finally come down to the perfect design near the end of December...

So, I am proud to present, a concept shelved for 4 years and eventually, 6 months of labor and love, the all-new, redesigned, Twist The Cat!

    Oh wait I get it!
That girder crushed Twist's head and then he had to redesign it!

I hope it didn't cost too much. =P
