Also those shorts are wonderful, and itching to be purchased should they exist in reality.

They do indeed exist! (or they did.)
Everlast had a line of boxer briefs with a somewhat 70's runners short cut like this, in plenty of odd colors. I never saw a mint green pair, but plenty of other bright choices.

Best of luck! As for a brick and mortar location you might find them, I saw them at Wal-Mart.
