Deirdre has never had many friends in her life. Except for Ciara and Connor, there have been very few people who could put up with her long enough to really get to know her. Just recently, however, she has found an unexpected ally in her daughter-in-law, Niamh. Though they fight a lot, Deirdre can't help but be fond of the one girl who is generous enough to love her daughter, and brave enough to stand up to her. What's more, she's touched by the way Niamh will turn to her in times of sadness or trouble. Niamh's own mother died when the girl was only three and, in spite of their disagreements, they are still family.
