Rootater, Rootag, and Rootama.

Grass/Ghost Kodama/Jubokko Pokemon, vengeful spirits who manifest as Pokemon, usually on battlefields or other areas with a lot of past strife and bloodshed. It hides in the ground so only its head and the tops of its arms are visible, and appears as a small shrub until it erupts out of the ground to gobble up prey who draw close for shelter.

Travelers are especially wary of dead stumps or upturned roots in certain patterns, and in earlier times signs would be posted outside Rootater nesting grounds. Now a cautious Trainer can just point their Pokedex at suspicious plants and have them identified at the click of a button.

We have quite a lot of birch trees here in upstate NY, which inspired the shinies!
