Red flags when buying at a convention!
Based on a conversation I had with Painted Dog during our 5 hour drive to Atlanta last weekend!
Just a few notes :
Paypal with friends and family is always a scary one... pretty much means I won't work with them. ><
LOL, Likeshine's Supercilious Face (tm) is just perfect for these.
Man, that "it aggravates my anxiety" one. I keep seeing people do that and it makes me (as an artist with an anxiety disorder) cranky.
Love how the 'Buy my shit' sign is on the table like that, just like how it would be put on the actual dealer's table.
So technically, you've managed to put in self product advertisement into your own comic & made it totally fit.
=p
◾if you're not aware, sending payment for a commission via the "friends and family" option on Paypal eliminates your option to dispute the transaction. It removes the fees, yes, but if that person bails with your cash you've got no leg to stand on. If the seller insists on this, please be wary!
Also be aware that you're intentionally circumventing PayPal's fees. If PayPal finds out, and believe me they will, then they can expect your account to be frozen, as well as the artists' account. I know because I got grilled by PayPal just sending a legit gift to an artist friend. And, as pointed out, if the transaction goes sideways then you have zero recourse with PayPal. Except being a d*ck and reporting it to get the artist's account frozen >_>
Livejournal, and the name specifically is artists_beware and commonly referred to as AB. It's a community that is devoted to listing artists and commissioners alike who've been unreliable, hard to work with, or just all-around unpleasant. It's pretty much a place you can go to reference which people you'll probably want to be wary about doing business with. Issues are marked with being resolved when it's corrected; Like if you'd commissioned an artist a year ago and had been waiting on them, but finally got your art after the beware was posted, you can update the entry to say that it's been taken care of. However, entries are not allowed to be deleted, because it's an archive. There are people who've only been posted once because of a rare slip up, and there are people who've been posted multiple times. Also, it's not all negative. There are spotlights for good experiences, posts asking for specific advice, and attempts to find artists/commissioners after lost contact, too.
