I agree with Sisco. You did really well for your first time with rain actually. Fluids are really hard to get down, I should know. And don't worry about the backgrounds. It's just something to work at :) I've been at this for a LONG time and I still rarely do backgrounds so don't sweat it ;3
I would still like some sort of way to learn to do backgrounds better... and fluids for that matter lol
Unfortunately for backgrounds it is mostly just experimenting with brush effects and practicing. As for liquids you just got to remember it conforms to what it is resting on/in. Also keeping the light source consistent |3 I find a very pale blue or black with white highlights work very well on a separate layer with a lower transparency.

you're way to hard on yourself here cutie. The Rain looks good and the background, while not cmplex does help build the scene. I particularly like the dark clouds behind him.
