Our story begins by following two unlikely companions fleeing across the desert at dusk, chased by a gang of blood-thirsty cyclists. Shellback is one of the rare reptile-type of the Guilds, a male snapping turtle with a penchant for seclusion. He is stuck on this motorcycle with his unexpected passenger, a young female panther-breed girl named Turntail, whom he picked up by accident leaving the Complex. Together they fear the Keepers of the IMPAC guard, lead by Sharptooth, the appropriately named alligator-breed in pursuit.
