Or maybe it was already a thing, and the two gave pirates that had to walk it a much better way to go than floating helplessly in the ocean until exhaustion and starvation claimed them. I mean there's a tiny chance of finding an island way out there to wash up on, but there's just as good a chance she accidentally fumbles catching them so off ya go, sailor.
