When you surround yourself with mediocrity, it is easy to become a big fish in a small pond. Small accomplishments gain more attention in this "small pond", and it's easy to overestimate your skill, stagnate, and become vain in all the praise and glory you recieve. And of course it is the queen of the small pond that is hurt the most by this behavior, detaching them from reality and making it so their entire self-worth is based around their fan circle.
