Extriverse: Scope

CosmicTrashbag

0v0 junior!

Name: Scope
Nicknames: N/A.
Gender: Male/Mech.
Alt. Mode: Compact multi-terrain telescope.
Creators: Perceptor, Shockwave.
Voice/VA: TBD

Personality:
Scope is a very smart, bookish fellow, fond of researching anything and in love with all things scientific and yet, painfully clueless.

While he isn’t lacking in the processor department, the awkward triclops has social graces that would make the most bumbling Sharkticon look like a cultured Prime. He has to spend a great deal of time reading a situation before he can know how to act, but he often doesn’t being somewhat unaware of his own social shortcomings.
While he’s not emotionless he does have a hard time connecting to other bots, partially due to the aforementioned social unawareness but also because he tends to translate situations into ‘scientific experiments’ to help himself but it tends to further his disconnection with others as they find this a little offputting.
His interest in science and researching leads him to ask weird and somewhat awkward questions (If that human claims there is an overpopulation problem, why don’t they simply put the surplus to use in human experimentation for the betterment of their species?) and it genuinely doesn’t click in his processor that such questionings are generally not appropriate.

His bumbling hasn’t won him a great number of friends beyond those that can glimpse past his shortcomings, although he tries every day to speak and behave in a manner fitting of a top class scientist and despite him having a decently friendly, happy attitude, it matters greatly to him that he not be perceived as an idiot.

History:
Perceptor had been waiting a long time to finally dig through some of the old Decepticon scientists work. He knew Shockwave had the details on a multitude of the Decepticons terrible experiments kept away somewhere, he’d wanted to look into them before to have knowledge on anything the Decepticons might throw at them next.

It seemed almost natural that he’d end up being drawn lower and lower into the abandoned Decepticon facility to places he had to use small explosives and careful ’re-engineering’ to get through the doors. Some of the experiments down here looked extraordinary if anything he seemed to be constructing something quite impressive before he died, or at least dismantling everything for probably repurposing.

On the other hand, it meant all of this was useless to him, it seemed as though Shockwave was confident enough in his own memory banks not to write down key information and without most of these devices being in one piece they were of no use to him, aside from possible building projects.

Except he didn’t quite trust the Decepticons tech enough to just go about rebuilding these things for the fun of it, without knowing what they did first.

It was at this point he found a big circular room, the temperature was at a terribly hot level and the walls and floors were lined with grooves that slanted down towards the centre of the room where a pedestal was placed, a pedestal that bore a single bright lamp.

The lamp was cracked on one side and almost falling apart, but the light that shone through pulsed and throbbed.

No… it couldn’t be…

Perceptor was unable to resist approaching the device, a sense of morbid curiosity making him approach the thing, he had to know if it was what he thought it was. He gently tugged a little at the container turning it towards himself to peer at the bright light, except the container was weak, it only took his gentle pull for the already weakened material to break and the containment bubble that’d so valiantly held up for so long in these conditions to crumble.

All hell broke loose, or at least that’s what it felt like.

The seething energy was exactly what Perceptor nervously thought it to be, a chunk of Spark energy, lopped off from the source and seemingly kept in a container for purposes he did not know. But it was incomplete and wild, it threatened to peter out and dissipate without some sort of anchor it could hold on to.

Luckily for it, there was one nearby in the body of the stumbling scientist.

It burned at his plates desperate to join up with the similar energy source, Perceptor could feel it burn and tentatively grasp at his spark, confused at the familiarity but rejecting it as not it’s own.

And just like that, it did fade out.

Except much later he found out a newspark had been kindled from the excess energy.

Perceptor was terrified. He knew what happened and who the energy had come from.

This was terrible, just how would the other Autobots react? What would they say? This wouldn’t do at all! Especially with some unknown Decepticon having access to Cybertron!.

He decided to hide out until he thought it over some more, he needed time.
Thankfully, he was able to go to Earth with a few others to cool off there.

Unfortunately, Cybertron suffered an attack and he was now unable to help and stressed out as the space bridge failed.
He was in enough of a nervous panic that he already forgot how much time had passed before this even started.

He soon cradled a tiny beeping child. And promptly melted. It was his.
The others be damned, it was his.

When his skills were called for specifically back on Cybertron he still hid the child as best he could, worried about the immediate scorn.

Then he saw why he was called for specifically.
As the current head of the Autobot science department, they needed him to help give a war machine a new start life.
He quietly revealed Scope and told of what happened.

He and Scope were joyously accepted.
And Scope had a playmate too!

One playmate turned into many more and Perceptor was all too keen to both show his child the wonders of science and to ensure he spent time outside with others as much as he could.
He was one of the parents who had no qualms about letting his child go to Chaar.

He agreed with Optimus about preventing the hate from spreading.

Scope and the other Autobot youngsters were from then on, regularly sent to Chaar, to spend time with the weird purple guy and his associates and to play with the similarly aged children in their care.

Scope was doing his best to be social but was often abandoning the group of youngsters to examine thing, particularly their new caretakers. The big horned one woke up to find Scope had propped open his mouth with a stick and was poking his dangerously sharp teeth and had to move him away before sleeping in a locked room.

Still it was a home from home essentially.

Scope was among those who were put onto the ship “The Horizon” and were sent away from Cybertron as something bad began to happen.
They were not going to stand for their home being taken! They were going to head to Chaar and they were going to get reinforcements and take it back!

Notes/Extra:

  • His name was actually Brawn’s idea. Perceptor and Brawn became great (if odd and awkward) friends after their adventure together, and Brawn kept trying to make “science jokes” with ‘buddy’. Brawn wasn’t the best at them and it was more just him putting the emphasis on the word ‘scope’ and slipping it in whenever possible. Now Brawns dead, Perceptor looks back on that fondly and decided to name him as such.
  • His eyesight isn’t actually better due to having three eyes if anything it’s a bit weaker than normal bots as the ocular function is spread out between the three.
  • Will eventually enter a romantic relationship with Rupture.
  • His optics can zoom in like Perceptor’s but they cannot go as far as his, they simply do not have the range. However, the third optic can change focus and instead his vision will change to heat-based, he might be able to upgrade this optical feature but hasn’t as overuse gives him headaches.
  • While Perceptor is capable of limited quadrupedal movement, Scope is not.
  • The patch on his chest only functions as a light.
  • Can’t quite do the same bird hops seekers do either but does hop about a little when really excited.
  • He also can’t swivel his head about like Perceptor can.
  • He has some interest in meeting his other parent, or at least learning more about them. Perceptor is cautious about discussing this with him.
