Anthro Digitigrade Legs and Paws Practice by Chronic (critique requested)

Anthro Digitigrade Legs and Paws Practice (critique requested)

Chronic

I find it a bit embarrassing sometimes that most of my characters have digitigrade legs and yet it's one of my largest weaknesses, along with paws. So, I figured those things were something I should spend a night focusing on. I was mostly looking to fix my issues with weight distribution and length/angle of the calves. I feel like I did an okay job. At the very least I was feeling much more confident by the end :)

Critique/Redlining is welcome and appreciated!

Thanks! That means a lot :> It's not something I consider myself to be very consistently good at, but I'm working on it!

I like them ALL. Everyone has their own way of drawing digitigrade legs and I really love your sense of motion when drawing them. The only ones that seem to have 'issues' are your unicorn and canine right next to it. The thighs just seem a bit long to me. :/ Then again, like I said, everyone has their own style!

I am not so sure you'd want me redlining anything though.

Those two were bugging me quite a bit and it was one of those moments where the problem was staring me right in the face and if it were a snake it would've bit me! Sometimes a fresh set of eyes helps. xD Thank you so much for pointing out the issue :3 I really appreciate it!

Not a problem! I get the same way when it comes to staring at an image for too long. :) Hope some day that you can return the favor. But of course, I'd have to post something of that nature. Hmmmm... *stormbrains*

I like them a lot, it's rare to have digitigrade legs that actually look good, the only thing I would suggest is making the paws themselves (toe area) thinner depending on the species and gender, I think thinner feet may suit a female or a fox, fox example, a little better, I often find the tiny details like that make a huge difference. Either way, they look really great.

The other thing I see could be the the middle section being a little short. It'd make the characters a bit taller if you lengthened the calf section, but it might look a little better.

Glad to do it! I'm an awful artist but I love art, critique is basically all I can do, lol

I forgot to mention, for some reason, I really love the blue-line sketch format. It seems like a very pure and classy sort of art style

    time.

time and knee references. all I can offer for hope.

of course, drawing more can lessen the time factor a bit. that and as many references you can muster, including exaggeration explorations. making curves more extreme, bends narrower, bony points super prominent, etc. those will push not just your knowledge of how things look but how things fit together.

Thanks for your suggestions! I -really- miss my life drawing classes from college for these types of purposes. I've really allowed myself to get rusty with anatomy since I graduated and started to focus on texture design and not character art for my job. Anyways, you're absolutely right. As they say, practice makes perfect!
