"Jay" Lockleer - Toughest Little Punkdeer

MicroMei

Punk. Aloof. Tough. Survivable. Incredibly short.

These are all aspects of the tough little deer you see before you. Whether you nearly tripped over her while wandering on the street, or caught sight of the pint-sized cervine perched on a train seat with her little legs dangling, buried in her hoodie as she's checking her phone, it's kind of besides the point. She wears her heart on her sleeve! What you see is what you get, even if, considering her short height, isn't much.

Adopted at an early age by a family of supportive, but far larger wolves, Jay learned while growing up what it meant to stand out among her siblings, especially when it was incredibly easy to lose her in a crowd. Having a tough time fitting in with others at her school, and often getting into scraps with other kids that couldn't help but take shots at her lack of size or her parentage, she also quickly grew an unsettled edge about her, a little chip on her shoulder. The message she gave was clear to everyone. Don't mess with her if you didn't want a sharp, painful kick in the shin.

...Granted, now that she's off at college, her demeanor's softened, even if her general aesthetic hasn't. Still tough, still something of a wallflower at any given party, Jay nevertheless was offered a position in another classmate's garage band, where she learned, among other things, that her enjoyment of rock music and constant practice actually made the little deer pretty darn good at percussion, provided she was using her own height-adjusted drum set.

And so here she is. A local semi-celebrity, occasionally sneaking in with her other bandmates to play open bars and do public jam sessions...granted one that has to deal with a mysterious, awkward, occasional onset of sudden, unintended shrinking.

There's no explanation for it, medically, theoretically, or even spiritually. Without proper medication, the deer just occasionally sheds extra size at a rapid and often uncontrollable rate, and there's no telling just how small she'll get when a -good- shrink spurt hits!

It all started with a simple phrase I wanted to focus on, 'tiny punkdeer', and the results, by the incredibly talented Waffle (https://www.furaffinity.net/user/gil), speak for themselves. I wanted a short, tough character who would commonly wear an oversized, baggy hoodie. I wanted a character that would just present herself as 'cool', even if she was barely an inch tall or smaller. And I think Waffle captured every aspect of that perfectly. <3
