The Lex Ferri or Law of Metal refers to the post Mobian Civil War concept which forbids the use of forced roboticization as a punishment for any offense. Breaking this law is itself a severe crime and recognized as a taboo that jeopardizes the careful balance between Robians and their organic fellow citizens.

It's been a long, slow effort for the new government of Mobius to begin stripping the roboticizer of its historic connotations. Even preferring to rebrand the process as "upgrading" in an attempt to dilute the resistance of the population towards the idea they might willingly be transformed and benefit.

This is in no small part related to the idea that choosing to step into the upgrading equipment is a personal choice and cannot be forced. The decision seems to have been made for Geoffrey St. John, and the consequences will affect both him and Dax The Panda...
