Lukar Vajiri - Snarky Rogue by Arc Nova

Lukar Vajiri - Snarky Rogue

Arc Nova

This is a commissioned work of my avatar/fursona as envisioned by fantasy artist Benjamin Yackley ( https://www.weasyl.com/~augustforth ). The character is ©me, but the artwork is ©him. :)

As much as I love my fursona, there are many circumstances in which he’s just not a good fit. For situations like this I like to go the extra mile and create a brand new character from scratch. I don’t really bother mentioning or getting art of them because they’re typically one-off characters designed solely for a single situation or person. But this might change at some point in the future. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time. Lukar Vajiri here holds that honor.

Lukar came about back when I was an avid follower of Benjamin Yackley’s Spellshocked comic and Delyria world/RPG building project. He was created for a message board RP that never finished, but was still quite fun to play. He’s a half-Vadhan, half-Zemrin rogue who travels the world of Delyria as a sort of freelance errand-runner/adventurer. And he’s not afraid to bend the law if it means earning a few extra bucks. Need something less-than-legal transported halfway around the world? Do you require a stolen item to be recovered by any means necessary? Or do you just want something stolen? Lukar’s your guy! Just be sure you pay him well, or you might find something precious of your own stolen. …In fact, you better keep your eye on him anyway.

While Lukar tries to keep himself under the radar and away from the law, in his circles he’s known for two things. The first is his weapon: A prototype Chroma-powered crossbow developed by the Ertseti (which he stole during his time as a squire.) Chroma is basically food for Maginaria - magical creatures from which all magic on Delyria is derived. The crossbow has several interchangeable clips, each containing a different type of low-quality Chroma sand and marked with a specific rune. When attached, the Chroma in the clip infuses the loaded bolt with magic, and the rune instructs the Maginaria being offered the Chroma what kind of spell to perform in exchange. It’s a handy weapon to have for someone like Lukar who can’t cast magic normally. It limits his magical powers to whatever spell is on the rune, but it’s better than nothing. Unfortunately for Lukar even low-quality Chroma sand is expensive and difficult to obtain. He often spends most of his travels carrying very little if any of each type, and has learned to use it sparingly.

The second distinguishing characteristic is his mouth. Lukar has a bit of an attitude and a general disrespect for most things. Particularly when it comes to the law. He’s really not much of a fighter, so when caught in difficult situations he usually resorts to using his mouth to get out of it. Of course, he often gets into trouble by running his mouth off in the first place. Lukar often uses his cocky, self-assured attitude to hide the fact that he’s generally insecure, with very little in the way of people he can rely on for emotional support. Those patient enough to put up with his snarky nature can discover the very kind-hearted and friendly person within. But still…watch your wallet. >_>

The image you see here came as sort of a bonus from ordering Ben’s Delyria soundtrack CD. There was a bit of damage done to it during shipping, but luckily it didn’t occur on the drawing itself. I’ve had this kicking around my harddrive for years, and I’m not sure why I didn’t upload it to my gallery until now. I really like the character, and I’d be quite interested in playing as him again someday. :)

Thank you, Ben, for bringing Lukar to life! Your fascinating universe will always hold a special place in my imagination! :)
