This is a commissioned work of my avatar/fursona as envisioned by fantasy artist Tyger St.Kuan ( http://www.furaffinity.net/user/tygerstkuan ). Arc is ©me, the R-9 is ©Irem, and the artwork is ©Tyger St.Kuan. :)
I don’t usually commission badges for myself, as I already have far more than I need. But this was an opportunity I simply could NOT turn down! As a promotion for Further Confusion 2013, Tyger was accepting commissions for characters riding atop their favorite spaceships. Sadly, I was not aware of the promotion until the con itself, and seeing many examples of her hard work in person.
Needless to say I was impressed! Enough so that Tyger was gracious enough to accept my commission for not one, but two spaceship badges of my own! :D
This second one is of the R-9A Arrowhead from Irem’s R-Type series of arcade/console games. When it first hit arcades in 1987 it was obvious that the title was well ahead of its time. The unique gameplay elements, H.R. Giger-inspired graphics, and amazing sound revolutionized the 2D-shooter genre. The game has spawned numerous sequels over the years, and served as the inspiration for countless other game companies looking to make their titles stand out.
R-Type’s iconic feature is the Force Pod, which we see Arc happily holding on to. The Force can either fly separate from your ship and damage enemies with its 4-way bullets, or can be attached to the front or back of your ship and utilize a variety of air-to-air or air-to-surface lasers. It can even block normal bullets, offering players a variety of different strategies to use as they challenge 8 levels of alien exterminating.
Thank you so much, Tyger, for your willingness to accept my belated commissions! I could not be more pleased with how they turned out! If anyone watching would like one of their own, go check out her badge account on FA ( http://www.furaffinity.net/user/-t-a-b- ) And be sure to give Tyger’s main account a +Watch, too! :D
